Upcoming Iron Man and Black Panther Titles are the Beginning of a “Big Push” by Marvel Games – Rumour

A known insider has claimed that the company is "painfully aware" of the fact that it hasn't seen the level of success in gaming that it would have hoped for.

Marvel has made several high-profile attempts to expand its presence in the gaming space in recent years, but its track record has been a little spotty, to say the last. Though the Insomniac-developed Marvel’s Spider-Man series has obviously enjoyed a great deal of success, having sold over 33 million units as of May last year, there have been other major titles that have not been quite so successful, from the critically maligned and commercially disappointing Marvel’s Avengers, to the likes of Marvel’s Midnight Suns and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxyboth of which failed to sell well despite being well-received by critics and audiences.

Interestingly, as per known comic book insider CanWeGetSomeToast, that inconsistency is something Marvel is “painfully aware” of. In a recent tweet, the insider claimed that there have been “whispers of an internal shift for Marvel to focus on games”, and that EA’s upcoming duo of single player action-adventure titles based on Black Panther (developed by Cliffhanger Games) and Iron Man (developed by Motive Studio) are supposed to be “the start of a push for something big.”

Of course, Marvel has a few other single player action-adventure titles confirmed to be in development as well. Skydance New Media, which is led by Uncharted creator Amy Hennig, is working on game starring Black Panther and Captain America, while Insomniac is currently developing Marvel’s Wolverine, which, according to rumours, is targeting Fall 2024 launch.

Meanwhile, later this month, on October 20, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will launch for PS5.
