Xbox’s Rumored Q1 2023 Event is Reportedly More Like a Direct Than a Showcase

"You shouldn't be waiting too long" for the event, says Windows Central's Jez Corden, but don't expect "a huge E3 show."

With all the announcements at The Game Awards 2022, one company that stood out for its complete lack of anything was Xbox. Microsoft is rumored to be holding an event in Q1 2023, according to Windows Central’s Jez Corden. Though the initial report was based on “tentative” and “unverifiable” rumors, Corden had some more details to share on Twitter.

Replying to a user about February rolling around without an Xbox showcase, Corden said, “You shouldn’t be waiting too long, but maybe showcase is a strong word. Direct maybe? Not sure on the scale yet, but don’t expect like a huge E3 show.” He also noted, “Some out there seem to be expecting a lot.”

With Starfield still on track to release in the first half of 2023 and Redfall rumored to launch in early May, Microsoft could reveal release dates for both titles at its event. Nevertheless, in terms of scale, it may turn out similar to the company’s past X0 events, as per Corden’s previous report. It could mean a handful of announcements instead of 90 minutes’ worth of reveals, so don’t get your hopes up.

As always, stay tuned for more details and updates on this in the coming weeks.
