Ubisoft has published a blog post where it explains its philosophy for the microtransactions that will be used in upcoming multiplayer shooter XDefiant. The number one thing the company has announced is that XDefiant will not be a pay-to-win game.
The company further clarifies that if any content is added to the in-game shop that impacts gameplay in any way, the content will also be unlockable through regular gameplay. An example presented is the DeadSec faction which will be available in the game’s pre-season, which will be available through a purchase, or through an in-game challenge that requires the player earning 700,000 XP.
While XDefiant will feature microtransactions, Ubisoft states that there will also be plenty of free content for players, including free rewards from the battle pass, in-game daily and weekly challenges, Ubisoft Connect challenges, weapon mastery, and community-based rewards like Twitch drops and other giveaways.
When it comes to customisation options, XDefiant will feature character skins, weapon skins, MVP Player animations, player cards, and emoji packs.
When XDefiant launches, the game will have a number of microtransactions options, including the premium version of the battle pass, character cosmetics, weapon cosmetics, and faction unlocks.
XDefiant is out tomorrow on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
