Amid critical acclaim and eight nominations at The Game Awards 2023, Remedy Entertainment’s Alan Wake 2 has made a strong impression in a packed year. While there are two story expansions, Night Springs and The Lake House, in the works, some developers are moving on to the studio’s next big project – Control 2.
Senior gameplay designer Leonid Stepanov recently tweeted that the “Creation of Alan Wake 2 was an incredible journey and an experience to remember! But it’s time for a new one. Share with you that now I am taking part in the development of Control 2.”
Announced last year, Control 2 is follow-up to the 2019 supernatural action-adventure/third-person shooter in development for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Per the developer’s recent quarterly fiscal report, it’s still in the proof-of-concept stage, which should continue “for the next few quarters.” Its plans for the sequel are “ambitious”, and it’s “seen good progress both in the designs and in the game build.”
The team is working on “proving the identified key elements before moving to the next stage and scaling up the team.” It may be a while before we see any gameplay, much less a release window, so stay tuned.
In the meantime, check out our review for Alan Wake 2, which is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC.
