Capcom is Not Following a “Master Plan” For Resident Evil Remakes – Rumor

A leaker has noted that, while Capcom won't ignore fan demand for remakes of Resident Evil 5 or 6, there are no plans for now.

Industry insider AestheticGamer (aka Dusk Golem) had recently reported that there is no interest at Capcom in doing remakes of Resident Evil 5 or 6 for now. In post on ResetEra, the leaker has offered further clarification, noting that the company currently doesn’t have any idea what it wants to do with the two titles, and that previous reports about an entire line of remade Resident Evil games being in the works that would lead up to Resident Evil Requiem are false.

Dusk Golem went on to note that there is no “master plan” that Capcom has been following with regards to the Resident Evil franchise and its remake, and that the company isn’t really thinking that far in advance. Rather, the current operating procedure at the company revolves around 5-year plans, with reassessments happening every few years.

“The original tweet I was quote-tweeting is claiming Capcom has some plan to do a remake line leading up to Requiem and restructure the narrative as part of some long-term plan,” said Dusk Golem. “This is false, Capcom has no f***ing idea right now what they want to do with RE5 and RE6 in remaking them, if they ever even decide to do them (right now they’re not committed to that at all), and they definitely aren’t making these remakes as some idea to restructure the whole series to Requiem.”

“There’s not a plan right now to lead up to Requiem with the Remakes, and really, they’ll only decide what they want to do with an RE5/RE6 Remake if they ever decide to actually do them. There’s not some ‘master plan’ to any of this; they aren’t thinking that far ahead about it. They tend to keep to only thinking 5 years ahead at any time broadly and will reassess every few years where they should go with the franchise rather than planning some super long-term plan.”

The leaker went on to note that there is the possibility of a remake of Resident Evil 5 happening at some point in the future, and that it will likely come down to whether fans want it to happen, especially after Capcom wraps up its current plans that involve Resident Evil Veronica, and reportedly will include remakes of Resident Evil 0 and the original Resident Evil. “Capcom can’t ignore that,” they wrote.

“But the claim the quoted tweet was making is completely false in literally all its details. There is no plan to remake RE5/RE6 right now, there isn’t some initiative to remake all the Resident Evil games specifically, and they aren’t thinking of tying this Remake line to Requiem specifically. Veronica and Zero Remake will tie into Requiem, but honestly that has a lot more to do with the fact they were in dev at the same time as Requiem than any master plan idea, and Requiem specifically sets up Veronica & RE:0 to tie more into itself.”

It is worth noting that the original Resident Evil 5, while still considered a fun co-op action horror game by many, is also quite problematic for the franchise, since it led Resident Evil down a path that would eventually see the release of the much-maligned Resident Evil 6.

In the meantime, Resident Evil Veronica – a remake of Resident Evil – Code: Veronica – is coming to PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027.
