Resident Evil 5

Capcom’s recent reveal that a remake of Resident Evil – Code: Veronica is on the way has sparked quite a bit of debate about which title will be next in line for the remake treatment. While it would be easy to assume that the company might simply continue its current streak and move on to Resident Evil 5, known leaker AestheticGamer believes that this isn’t the case.

Noting that a remake of 2009’s Resident Evil 5 will likely happen at some point, AestheticGamer has heard that there is little interest in the idea at Capcom. “While I think a Resident Evil 5 Remake will probably happen in the future due to fan demand, at present I’ve heard there’s not a strong desire within the company to remake RE5 presently, there’s other projects the team wants to do more.”

In a further post, AestheticGamer notes that the remakes that Capcom has released so far, like Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4, stem from the company’s development teams wanting to make them happen. As for future remakes, a combination of key people at Capcom wanting it to do it, along with fan feedback, is why we’re getting Resident Evil Veronica. Interestingly, the leaker has also noted that remakes of Resident Evil 0 and the original Resident Evil are also in the pipeline.

“It’s easy to say at this point, ‘Oh they’ll remake everything,’ but to my knowledge that’s not what’s happening. There was desire from the teams to remake RE:2 & RE:4; fan initiative/feedback & interest from some key people led to Veronica, Zero, & RE:1 happening,” they wrote, before going on to note that there was more interest in remaking Resident Evil Revelations at the company than there is to touch Resident Evil 5 or 6.

“They’ve brought up other things to remake, but from what I’ve heard there’s more internal interest to remake Revelations 1 than RE5 or RE6, which at present no one really wants to take on. Again, I suspect RE5 will happen someday due to fan demand, but there is no drive to do it.”

Speaking of a remake of Resident Evil 0, AestheticGamer also recently said that its development has been “rebooted”, and that it is now being handled by the Division 1 team at Capcom, which happens to be the core team behind all Resident Evil games since 2017. Division 1 is also the team behind the upcoming Resident Evil Veronica, so this hand-off also indicates that development on the 2027 title is close to being done.

Resident Evil Veronica was unveiled with a story trailer that led some to believe that it will be in first-person, similar to Resident Evil 7, Village, and the default setting for Grace’s sections in this year’s Resident Evil Requiem. However, producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi has clarified that it will be a third-person title, and that its general vibes will be quite close to the survival horror trappings of Resident Evil 2 Remake, rather than the more action-oriented Resident Evil 4 Remake.

Resident Evil Veronica is being developed for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2, and doesn’t yet have a concrete release date.
