Cyberpunk 2077 Will Be “That One Last, Big, Exceptional Looking Title” On Current Gen Hardware – CDPR

CD Projekt RED's John Mamais is quite confident about the visual heights their upcoming RPG will hit.

As every console generation begins winding up, we see developers really starting to put contemporary hardware to its absolute limits, as they push out some of the best looking games of their times. The PS4 and Xbox One are now approaching the end of their life cycles, as their successors loom on the horizon, and we’re beginning to see games that do the very same.

CD Projekt RED already delivered a visually stunning game in the earlier years of this generation with The Witcher 3, and next year, with their upcoming Cyberpunk 2077, they’re looking to do the same. In fact, as per John Mamais – head of CD Projekt RED’s Krakow office – the upcoming RPG is going to be that one, final visually stunning game of this current console generation that closes things out.

“That’s the game development sector that we’re in, creating big, great-looking AAA games,” Mamais said while speaking with AusGamers. “And as the technology changes, we’re expected to use it too – and we want to use it cause that stuff keeps looking cooler and cooler, all the time. We’ll always keep pushing the envelope on the way a game can look, and that’s one of the most exciting things about working at CD Projekt RED; getting to do just that. I think Cyberpunk is going to be a real show piece in terms of tech. Especially as this generation of consoles is fading out. I think we’re going to be that one last, big, exceptional looking title on this current generation of hardware.”

Well, I don’t know if it will be the last big, exceptional looking current-gen game. I mean, the likes of The Last of Us Part 2, Ghost of Tsushima, Halo Infinite, Marvel’s Avengers, and Final Fantasy 7 Remake – to name just a few – are all coming out next year, and they’re all looking spectacular enough to stake a claim for that title. That said, Cyberpunk 2077 is very much going to be part of that discussion- there’s no doubt in anybody’s mind that it looks absolutely exceptional.

We’ll find out just how good it really looks when it launches on April 16, 2020 for the PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia. And don’t worry- CDPR are really pushing themselves to make sure that it does launch by that date and doesn’t suffer delays.
