Cyberpunk 2077 may not have enjoyed the sort of success (especially on the critical front) that CD Projekt RED would have been hoping it would, but with the studio currently at work on an expansion for the action RPG, the hope will be that the new content it brings can make at least some amends. That expansion is due out sometime in 2023, which means we won’t be hearing anything about it in an official capacity for a while, but it seems details on it have leaked nonetheless.
Apparently, hundreds of dialogue files from the expansion have leaked online after they were accidentally added into the game with a recent patch (via VGC), revealing not only the entire expansion’s story, but also many other crucial details. We won’t be mentioning any story-related spoilers here though, so don’t worry about that.
As for what content the expansion will bring, apparently, it will encompass a total of seven main missions, as well as more new world encounters, world stories, fixer quests, and more. The story itself will feature the character Songbird in a central role. Interestingly, it seems Johnny Silverhands role has been reduced significantly- perhaps due to actor Keanu Reeves not having been available to record new lines.
Finishing the expansion will apparently also have some brief impact on the base game’s main story, with its events being referenced in the ending. Meanwhile, the expansion will also take players to new areas in Night City, including the Sports Dome and the Combat Zone, both of which can be found in the base game’s open world but are inaccessible.
CD Projekt RED hasn’t mentioned when exactly in 2023 the expansion will be out, or when we’ll start hearing more about it, so it might be a while before these details are confirmed (if they are).
Cyberpunk 2077 is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia.
