Famitsu released its weekly sales data for video game software and hardware in Japan yesterday, and we reported that Days Gone had debuted on top of the charts, selling over 114,000 copies in its first week on launch. What’s even more impressive though, is that Days Gone has actually had a better debut in Japan than many of other Sony’s other first party exclusives this generation.
It has managed to outsell the likes of God of War, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and Detroit: Become Human, which sold 50,000 units, 110,000 units, and 30,000 units during their launch weeks in Japan respectively. While it outselling Detroit: Become Human doesn’t come across as much of a surprise, the fact that it has enjoyed a better debut than the other two is a bit surprising, especially considering that while Days Gone has had mixed reception, God of War and Horizon: Zero Dawn were far more universally praised (especially the former). Meanwhile, its sales are slightly behind those of Uncharted 4 and Spider-Man, which sold 124,000 and 132,000 units at launch respectively.
Days Gone has been doing very well even outside of Japan. In the UK, it had the biggest launch at retail in all of 2019.
