You might have discerned some stealth from the latest bizarre trailer for Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding. But don’t be fooled – this isn’t Metal Gear Solid. Director, designer, and producer Hideo Kojima noted on Twitter that Death Stranding is “not a stealth game.” Instead, he referred to it as a “brand new action game.”
“It is a brand new action game with the concept of connection (strand),” he wrote. “I call it Social Strand System, or simply Strand Game.” Those are terms we’ve heard before, thanks to trademark filings by Kojima Productions. Given the game’s focus on building bridges and trying to reconnect society, which has fallen into isolation in this post-apocalyptic future, it’s not the weirdest description. Of course, it also boasts asynchronous multiplayer for interacting with other players by seeing their footsteps, sharing safe-houses, and sending supplies.
Death Stranding is out on November 8th for PlayStation 4. Despite being classified as an action game, there’s a hefty amount of exploration as well. Kojima recently noted that players can travel to the snowy mountain depicted in the trailer. For more information on game over states and killing foes (which is not always the best idea), head here.
