Dragon Ball Z Kakarot Will Feature Fully Drivable Car

A beloved "filler" episode inspires a part of Kakarot.

Dragon Ball Z Kakarot is taking us back to a simpler time by revisiting the beginnings of the Z saga, at least up until the Cell Saga. We know the game will have some original content, but largely it’s all about that classic material, and it seems that one thing we’ll revisit is maybe one you wouldn’t expect as a much beloved “filler” episode will be referenced in a big way.

If you’re not familiar with the concept of filler episodes, it often happens in anime that are running alongside the ongoing manga it adapts. The original Dragon Ball Z anime was infamous for this as entire arcs were built that were not featured in the manga since the anime released at a faster pace, so much so that recently the show was re-released as Dragon Ball Z Kai, which cut out most material not originating from the manga.

In an interview with Twinfinite, Producer Ryosuke Hara said a filler episode where Goku and Piccolo must learn to drive is getting a lot of love, and once you unlock your driver’s license you will have access to a fully drivable car that you can take across the game’s vast fields. It’s not as fast as flying, but he seems to hint there could be some minigames related to it as “we’re preparing something where you have to use the car.”

That episode of Dragon Ball Z was always a fun one, so it should be a neat little bit of fan service when the game releases sometime next year. In the meantime, check out our interview on the game to get feel for the upcoming RPG.
