Dragon’s Dogma 2 is Single Player-Only, Features “the Latest in Graphics, AI, and Physics”

Capcom is promising "an adventure so unique you will feel as if accompanied by other players while on your own adventure."

Upon its long-anticipated announcement last yearDragon’s Dogma 2 instantly jumped to the top of many people’s most anticipated lists, and at the recent PlayStation Showcase, Capcom offered first look at gameplay for the upcoming action RPG. That was also followed by new details becoming available, courtesy of the game’s official website.

For starters, Dragon’s Dogma 2 has been confirmed to be an exclusively single player game, much like its predecessor was. Capcom describes it as “a single player, narrative driven” game, while also confirming that, as expected, players will be able to customize their experience in a variety of ways, including “the appearance of their Arisen, their vocation, their party, how to approach different situations, and more.”

In spite of being a single player experience, however, Capcom says players will “feel as if accompanied by other players while on your own adventure”. That, of course, is thanks to the Pawns system, which fans of the original game will be very familiar with. For those not familiar, Capcom describes Pawns as “mysterious, otherworldly beings devoted to serving the Arisen” that will be controlled by the AI and will have their character “uniquely determined by the player.”

Meanwhile, other confirmed details include the introduction of Beastren, which is a new beast-like race, in addition to monsters and enemies both new and familiar. Players will also be able to wield swords, bows, and chant magick, while different vocations will grant diverse abilities. The story, meanwhile, will begin in an underground gaol, and after seeing the titular Dragon take your heart (much like the first game), will focus on the race to “slay the Dragon and claim the throne”.

Additionally, Capcom also states the game will boast “the latest in graphics, AI, and physics technology”, which will come together to create “a truly immersive fantasy world.” Previously, it was confirmed that the game is being built on the company’s internal RE Engine.
