Featuring enhancements to support the more powerful hardware on offer with the PS4 Pro and – to a greater extent – the Xbox One X has become a norm for most major (and even the not so major) video game releases now- and Dying Light 2 will be doing so as well. However, developers Techland, it seems, aren’t quite sure yet just what those enhancements will end up being, for interesting reasons.
Speaking with Wccftech, Techland chief technical officer Pawel Rohleder said that Dying Light 2 will definitely be enhanced for the more powerful variants of both the PS4 and the Xbox One “in some way”- but the developer is also looking to make sure that the game takes full advantage of the much more powerful hardware that PC provides, which is in many ways years ahead of its console counterparts.
“It’s a very interesting topic,” saud Rohledar when asked about enhancements in Dying Light 2. “Because right now, there’s a huge gap in between the consoles, the current version consoles, and the PCs is like five or six years. And this still every half a year, you have a new generation of graphics boards. And so in general, we want to support the wide variety of systems, including high-end PCs with RTX implementations.”
“On the other hand, we’re making the games for the current version as well,” he continued. “Xbox One X and PS4 Pro is somewhere in the middle. So it will be for sure enhanced in some way, but the very high-end PCs will be even more enhanced, right. So we want to give the same experience, but maybe a slightly better visual experience if someone has the hardware with better capabilities, right. And this is also one of the biggest challenges that we’re struggling with right now, how to create the game, which looks okay, on this, like a variety of devices. And also thinking about future platforms.”
Techland have confirmed that Dying Light 2 will be making an appearance at E3 this year, so maybe we’ll find out more about this very soon. Recently, the developers also spoke about the game’s evolving engine, as well as the possibility of Switch port- read more on that through here. Meanwhile, the devs also recently claimed that Dying Light 2 has “several games worth of content.”
