Fallout 4 Next-Gen Update Targets 4K/60 FPS in All Modes on Xbox Series X, Says Bethesda

Bethesda notes that Performance Mode is "more aggressive in lowering settings" to maintain the 4K/60 FPS target on Microsoft's console.

With the launch of Fallout 4’s Next-Gen Update, players have faced several issues, from messed up save files to mods breaking. Recent reviews on Steam are now at 78 percent “Mostly Positive” as more negative reviews continue to pile up. However, there’s another baffling issue on Xbox Series X – even if you opt for Quality Mode (which offers native 4K/30 FPS), it will still run at 60 FPS.

This isn’t the case on PlayStation 5, which switches to 30 FPS (40 FPS for those with 120Hz displays). Bethesda has since clarified this on Twitter. “Quick note on Fallout 4 Next Gen Update on Xbox Series X. It actually targets 4K 60 FPS in all modes. Performance Mode is more aggressive in lowering settings to maintain this target.”

It follows another issue where PlayStation Plus players who claimed Fallout 4 for free were ineligible for the Next-Gen Update. Bethesda quickly fixed this for PS Plus Extra subscribers, but those who own it via PS Plus Essential or the defunct PS Plus Collection are out of luck.

Fallout 4 is available for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5 and PC. Here’s what you should know about the update before picking it up and some tips to get started.
