EA Sports has released the sales figures for FIFA 13 so far, and damn, it’s astounding. The game has become the biggest launch of 2012, bigger than heavyweights like Mass Effect 3 and Borderlands 2, and has gone on to sell a whopping 4.5 million units in just 5 days.
FIFA 13 sold 1.23 million copies in the UK alone within the first 24 hours of its release, making it only the second franchise to have ever done so in that region. It also did well in the US, selling 353,000 copies on the first day.
The game topped sales charts- like in the UK– in over 40 countries, and 800,000 players were playing online simultaneously. Over 66 million online games have been played, translating to roughly 600 million minutes of online play, meaning that FIFA 13 has “the busiest day for online gaming for a single title in EA history.”
“FIFA Soccer 13 is a critical and commercial success unprecedented in sports entertainment,” said EA Sports executive vice president Andrew Wilson. “Every minute of every day millions of fans around the world are experiencing what the critics have already said— FIFA Soccer 13 is the biggest and best sports game we have ever created.”
FIFA 13 released a few days back, at the end of September, and was met by acclaim by one and all, including us. We gave it an 8.5/10. Read our review here.
