Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima has achieved a new milestone with over 6.5 million units sold since launch. The success doesn’t just stop there – as reported by Deadline (and confirmed by the PlayStation Blog), Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are working on a film adaptation. It will be directed by Chad Stahelski of John Wick fame.
Stahelski, along with Alex Young and Jason Spitz, will also produce the title through 87Eleven Entertainment. PlayStation Productions will have Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan as producers while Sucker Punch will serve as executive producers. Qizilbash, who is also the head of PlayStation Productions, said that, “We’re excited to be partnering with Chad and 87Eleven Entertainment, to bring their vision of Jin’s story to the big screen. We love working with creative partners like Chad, who have a passion for our games, ensuring we can create rich adaptations that will excite our fans and new audiences.”
Ghost of Tsushima released in July 2020 for PS4 and sold more than 2.4 million units in just three days. It became the console’s fastest selling first-party original IP with over five million units sold by November 2020. Along with updates to the single-player, Sucker Punch would also release free multiplayer mode called Ghost of Tsushima: Legends.
Job listings have indicated that sequel is in the works though Sucker Punch hasn’t officially announced the same. For more details on the base game, check out our review here.
