Helldivers 2 has taken the world by storm ever since its launch in early February, so it’s no surprise that the game is continuing to top sales charts all over the world. Circana (formerly known as the NPD Group) recently released the data for software and hardware sales in the US for the month of February (via analyst Mat Piscatella on Twitter), and Arrowhead Game Studios and Sony’s co-op shooter has topped those charts.
That’s an impressive accomplishment, considering the fact that Helldivers 2 launched as a $40 game, and these are charts that are based on revenue generated, not units sold. The shooter’s launch month dollar sales are the seventh highest a Sony-published title has ever achieved in the US, while it has also instantly become the best-selling game of the year so far, outselling Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. 60 percent of Helldivers 2’s sales have come on Steam.
Meanwhile, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, which released at the tail end of the month, has also performed impressively, coming in at second place, while Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth twin pack has entered the charts at No. 8. The newly-released action RPG has also shot up to No. 4 in the year-to-date sales charts.
Another new February release, Skull and Bones, has debuted at No. 4, while other recent releases also figure in the charts, with Tekken 8 at No. 5, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League at No. 7, Persona 3 Reload at No. 9, and Mario vs. Donkey Kong at No. 11.
On the hardware side of things, the PS5 was the best-selling console of the month in terms of both unit and dollar sales, with Nintendo Switch following in second place in unit sales, and Xbox Series X/S taking that spot in dollar sales.
