I’d Be Surprised If Xbox Will Ever Have Their Own VR Headset, Says Dev

"I don’t think VR is quite there yet for consoles," says developer Brian Wilson.

Sony clearly sees great potential in VR, while Nintendo are also introducing their own makeshift solutions– Microsoft’s omission from the VR race has been quite interesting for many, though. Some feel they’re missing an opportunity, some are of the opinion that they’re simply playing the waiting game, and will eventually throw their hat into the ring as well, while others feel they have no interest in VR whatsoever.

Brian Wilson, developer of the upcoming indie puzzle adventure title Where the Bees Make Honey, agrees with the latter. While in conversation we GamingBolt, Wilson acknowledged Sony’s great efforts with the PS VR, before saying nonetheless that VR in consoles isn’t “quite there yet”, and that as such, Microsoft just don’t seem to have much interest in that area.

“VR has been another interesting component to this generation about halfway through its cycle,” said Wilson. “Sony really went all in and I think the PSVR library is great. However, I don’t think VR is quite there yet for consoles – in terms of just being able to put on the headset and it works. I’d be surprised if Xbox will ever have their own VR headset.”

If Microsoft were planning to take a crack at VR, the next Xbox would be the time to do so- but right now, it really is up in the air whether they’ll even want to do so. Our full interview with Wilson will be going live soon, so stay tuned.
