Marvel’s Avengers Will Not Feature Local Co-op

The Avengers won't assemble for couch co-op.

The Avengers will assemble early next year in video game form thanks to Square Enix’s Marvel’s Avengers. But it turns out that assembling will be slightly…limited in certain ways. Today we got word that, while there is going to be plenty of online play, don’t expect much in the offline world. While the game’s campaign will be roughly 12 hours or so, you’ll be going it alone it seems when offline.

Speaking at the New York Comic-Con presentation on the game, Crystal Dynamics Head of Studio Scot Amos spoke on several aspects of the game. When it came to the multiplayer aspect he confirmed that there will be no local co-op mode in the game at launch (thanks to MP1st for transcribing the talk).

We know the game will have an extensive multiplayer mode, which you can read about more here, but considering how we hadn’t heard anything about co-op offline, many assumed there probably wasn’t any, but seems we have official confirmation now. There is online co-op at least in some form, so there’s that. We really don’t know a whole lot about the multiplayer at this point, but we’ll keep you updated as more information comes in as there’s still a decent amount of time before Marvel’s Avengers launches.
