Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain Shipped Over 3 Million Copies In First Week

In other words, it seems to be a success.

There’s very little doubt that Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is a success. Just how big of a success has it been? According to a banner ad that showed up online recently, Konami is claiming that worldwide shipments for the game surpassed three million copies in a matter of days. The banner ad popped up just a few days after the game was released, on September 1 and seems to indicate that all the marketing as well as the hard work that was put into the game paid off.

The really interesting aspect of the ad is that it was released soon enough after the game was released that this was likely day one sales. Considering the game has now been out for a couple of weeks it seems likely the shipment numbers are even more impressive these days. While there have been a number of whispers that one of the reasons Kojima and Konami parted ways was because it was costing too much to make this chapter of the long running series, it appears Konami at least has a critical hit on its hands. That’s always a plus even if they aren’t raking in the profits.

The company clearly understands it has something pretty special on its hands, considering it has already announced the first round of DLC. Things can only get better when it comes to sales numbers for Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain as most of the money that was going to get sunk into the game has been sunk. Were you one of the 3 million early purchasers of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain?
