Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain Review – French Publication Awards It A 17/20

Tedious missions doesn't sound like great news.

We’re moving closer and closer to the release of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. In fact, we’re so close now that players who intend to access the game using the Xbox One can now officially place their digital preorders for the game.  Another big sign that the release date is getting ever closer is that reviews are actually starting to come out. At least those reviews are coming out across the pond. The official review embargo doesn’t get lifted until this Sunday but it looks as though the French website JeuxVideo Magazine has jumped the gun a bit.

A Twitter user has gotten hold of a picture of the review’s scores and if this review can be believed, The Phantom Pain appears to be a very good game. Granted the publication is giving more stars than more publications do, considering if offers up as many as 20 stars, The Phantom Pain garnered 17 stars from this organization. There is also a breakdown of how they arrived at that rating.

We’re not really sure where that extra star came from, since you can clearly see the breakdown would seem to indicate 16 of 20. While the review is generally very positive, there are a few negatives the magazine pointed out. The publication finished up with some comments that make us wonder just how the game got such a good score. “A rich gameplay but also some tedious missions, a plot which promises so much and delivers so few, MGSV is as impressive as it leaves you unsatisfied. A good game, but one difficult to understand.” You’ll get to see Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain for yourself when it launches on the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, and PC on September 1.
