Microsoft Issues Subpoena to Sony to Divulge Confidential Business Information

As part of its bid to fight off lawsuits that are stopping its acquisition of Activision Blizzard, Microsoft has now issued a subpoena to Sony.

In the latest chapter of the US Federal Trade Commission’s lawsuit against Microsoft for the latter’s pending acquisition of Activision Blizzard, Microsoft has served a subpoena to Sony. The subpoena would potentially force Sony to divulge business details that are typically confidential.

According to VideoGamesChronicle, the subpoena was filed on January 17, and while its original response date was slated for January 20, it has since been extended to January 27. Sony has to issue a response to the subpoena in some way by the deadline, either by divulging its details, or by making a move to limit or squash it.

“Negotiations between SIE and Microsoft as to the scope of SIE’s production and a discovery schedule are ongoing,” says the filing according to VGC.

Recently, both Google and Nvidia joined Sony in voicing concerns over Microsoft attempting to acquire Activision Blizzard. Both companies stated that, if the acquisition were to go through, Microsoft would gain a major advantage over other companies in mobile gaming, cloud, and subscription markets.
