Minecraft is exactly the sort of franchise that can hypothetically branch out in infinite ways, and each can be made to work. That’s something that Microsoft and Mojang obviously recognized long ago, and the newest experimental spinoff coming from the series is action strategy title Minecraft Legends, which was announced at the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase in June.
Now, Mojang has released a development diary that goes behind-the-scenes with the work being done on the game across both Mojang and partner developer Blackbird Interactive. The dev diary goes into explaining the central premise of the strategy spinoff and detailing its world, characters, and general narrative setup, while also offering brief glimpses of the gameplay, which melds Minecraft ideas and mechanics with real-time strategy elements. Check out the video below.
Minecraft Legends is due out sometime in 2023 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, and Nintendo Switch. You can check out some brief gameplay footage of the Nintendo Switch version through here.
