After the announcement of the PC version’s release and share prices falling by 13 percent, Merrill Lynch Japan noted that Capcom’s Monster Hunter World sales were “risk” for the company. Despite this, Monster Hunter World’s PC version has been on top or near the top of Steam’s Top Sellers list. In its recent Q1 fiscal year 2018 financial results, Capcom also revealed that the game has sold 8.3 million units since launching for PS4 and Xbox One in January 2018.
Capcom noted that despite launching in the previous fiscal year, “the phenomenal success” of the game has continued. It also revealed that the title was gaining “further popularity through the expansion of its user base”, likely in reference to the game’s strong PC pre-orders.
Monster Hunter World has been a success in numerous ways for Capcom. It’s the company’s best selling game in history and has plenty of content planned, including collaboration with Final Fantasy 14 to implement Behemoth as a new monster. The Behemoth update will arrive on August 1st for Xbox One and PS4. The PC version is out on August 9th, but it will take some time before post-launch monsters like Deviljho, Lunastra, and so on are available.
