The success of Square Enix’s NieR: Automata, developed by PlatinumGames and helmed by director Yoko Taro, continues to amaze. It was confirmed on Twitter to have passed 4.5 million in worldwide shipments and digital sales. The last major sales milestone was in June 2019 when NieR: Automata was confirmed to have sold over 4 million units.
First released in 2017 for PS4, NieR: Automata would be ported over to PC and eventually released for Xbox One in 2018. The title garnered acclaim for its presentation, story-telling and combat. Serving as a sequel to NieR Replicant, it sees the androids of YoRHa battling robots created by an invading alien force. Things aren’t as they seem though.
Square Enix recently announced that a revamped version of NieR Replicant would be coming to Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Developed by Toylogic, it will feature re-recorded voices and new music tracks. NieR Re[in]carnation was also announced for iOS and Android – it will be a free to play title directed by Taro and developed by Applibot.
