Last month, it was announced that PlatinumGames’ NieR: Automata had over four million in worldwide shipments and digital downloads. It sounded like a good figure because of the demand reflected but wasn’t the actual sales number. Thankfully, the official Twitter for PlatinumGames has confirmed that the hack and slash, action RPG indeed sold over four million discs and digital downloads since launch.
A video message featuring PlatinumGames game designer Takahisa Taura and chief game designer Hideki Kamiya was released to celebrate the milestone. Kamiya noted that the title was a “big earner” for the company while Taura humorously noted that it was “keeping the lights on at Platinum”. Both went on to thank those who played the game with Kamiya indicating that he hadn’t done so just yet.
NieR: Automata is available for PS4, Xbox One and PC. Published by Square Enix and directed by Yoko Taro, the title takes place in the far future where Earth has become overrun by Machines. It’s up to YoRHa, an organization serving humanity and dispatching Android soldiers like 2B and 9S, to stop them. Check out GamingBolt’s review for NieR: Automata if you haven’t played it already.
