Onimusha: Way of the Sword Demo Hits 1 Million Downloads, as Producer Addresses Difficulty Concerns

"Rest assured, in the final game, the bosses and the regular Genma will put up a tougher fight," says Capcom's Akihito Kadowaki.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword finally received a release date and is even coming to Nintendo Switch 2, rounding out very strong year for Capcom. However, it also got a free demo on all platforms, providing a taste of the combat, performance and early game.

The reception has been pretty strong, with one million downloads in just a few days. However, one common refrain emerges about the difficulty. No, not that it’s too hard, but that it actually feels too easy.

Producer Akihito Kadowaki addressed this in a recent video on Twitter. “We’ve heard the feedback that the demo felt too easy for some people. First, the demo is just a slice of the early part of the story. Also, we really wanted you to enjoy a variety of Musashi’s actions, so we intentionally equipped him with some late-game skills. Because of that, some players might have felt a lack of challenge.”

Essentially, it’s a reverse Monster Hunter situation, where the demos would often handicap players’ gear while presenting some tough challenges. Even if Way of the Sword’s demo took a different approach, fans can expect stronger challenges at launch.

“Rest assured, in the final game, the bosses and the regular Genma will put up a tougher fight. Please look forward to the challenge in the full game.”

Onimusha: Way of the Sword arrives on September 25th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. While there are only two difficulty “options” in the demo – Story and Action – you have to wonder if the game features the infamous Hell Mode, where single hit means death. It should make up for the lack of returning characters from previous games, if nothing else. Stay tuned for more updates and gameplay in the meantime.
