The story of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake has been quite an interesting one to follow. Fans begged for a new Prince of Persia game for years, but when Ubisoft did finally announce the frequently-demanded remake, it was met with significant backlash over its visuals and the general level of polish. Then, of course, it got delayed a couple of times, with the second and most recent delay being an indefinite one.
Questions about the game’s development and what its new release date will be have cropped up quite often, and while that information still remains largely murky, Ubisoft did recently provide a brief update on the game. If things go to plan, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake will launch sometime in fiscal year 2022-23, which runs from April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023. Of course, if things don’t go to plan, the game will be delayed one more into the “April 2023 and beyond” window.
According to Ubisoft’s Frédérick Duguet, the remake’s development team is “taking the appropriate time to ensure” that the game hits the level of quality, and one that a series of Prince of Persia’s caliber deserves. He said (via VGC): “Prince of Persia is a beloved brand and we are taking the appropriate time to ensure that we are living up to players’ expectations.”
Recently, Ubisoft released a message for those concerned about the remake’s development, in which they reassured everyone that the game was still very much in development. Currently announced for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, it remains to be seen whether or not it will also get native PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions or a Switch release.
In the same call, Ubisoft also announced a new launch window for the upcoming free-to-play title The Division Heartland. Read more on that through here.
