Resident Evil 2 Is Outpacing Resident Evil 7’s Sales

The series has collectively sold 95 million units worldwide.

Capcom recently announced that Resident Evil 2, the highly acclaimed remake that came out just a little over a year ago, had sold 5.8 million units in 2019 alone (1.1 million of which were sold in the last quarter of the year). The success, of course, is well-deserved, but it also represents a healthy growth on the commercial side of things for the resurgent survival horror franchise.

As pointed out on Twitter by Niko Partners senior analyst Daniel Ahmad, Resident Evil 2 is outpacing the sales of Resident Evil 7. Though the latter currently stands at 7 million units, it took it nearly two years to cross sales of 6 million, and Resident Evil 2 is almost there in less than a year. Given that the the delivered two great games back-to-back, the momentum from Resident Evil 7’s success is sure to have given a big boost to Resident Evil 2. That should spell good things for the upcoming Resident Evil 3.

Meanwhile, the Resident Evil series as a whole has now sold a total of 95 million units.

Not too long ago, Capcom openly said that the success of Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5 had resulted in them shifting their focus to more similar remakes and franchise revivals. The first of those, the Resident Evil 3 remake, is out for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC on April 3.
