Resident Evil 3 And Resident Evil Resistance Aren’t Directly Related, Says Producer

Despite being packaged together, the games aren't connected by narrative.

The Resident Evil franchise is aiming for another pitch perfect remake with the release of Resident Evil 3 later this year. The game will recreate the third game in the franchise in similar fashion to last year’s Resident Evil 2 and, fingers crossed, it’ll hit the nail on the head just as well as that one did. Much less talked about, though, is Resident Evil Resistance. The 4v1 multiplayer title will come packaged with Resident Evil 3, but it’s not a multiplayer competent per say, as the two titles will share little in common.

In an interview with Famitsu, Producers Peter Fabiano and Masao Kawada talked at length about the upcoming release. Kawada said that while the two games were both developed with the same theme of “escape” (the Japanese subtitle for he original Resident Evil 3/Biohazard 3 was Last Escape) and share a setting, there is actually no direct relation or connection between the two. He even refers to the package as more of a “compilation work” of two separate titles released together.

It makes sense, as the two games will have different file sizes and trophy/achievement lists. Resident Evil Resistance was revealed first as Project Resistance before Resident Evil 3‘s official reveal, and even had beta. It’s not clear at this point if Resistance was meant to be a standalone title or not originally, but either way, it will come with the remake of Resident Evil 3 when it releases on April 3rd.
