Resident Evil has consistently been one of Capcom’s biggest sellers in recent years, with every new major instalment enjoying impressive sales. Resident Evil 4 Remake launched earlier this year to widespread acclaim from critics and audiences alike, and unsurprisingly, it, too, is seeing commercial success to reflect that praise.
Capcom has announced that the survival horror remake has now sold over 5 million units worldwide across all platforms since its launch roughly four months ago. At last count, the game stood at over 4 million units sold in April, after having sold over 3 million units in its first two days after release.
Capcom has also confirmed that the series’ total lifetime sales currently stand at over 142 million units as of March 31, 2023.
Shortly after the launch of Resident Evil 4’s remake, it received free additional content in the form of the Mercenaries mode, which, according to leaks, will receive yet more content down the line. A free PlayStation VR2-exclusive mode is also currently in development. Meanwhile, leaks have also strongly suggested that large-scale expansion focused on Ada Wong, Separate Ways, is in development as well.
In our review of the RE4 remake, we awarded it a score of 10/10, saying, “Resident Evil 4 perfectly captures the tone and strengths of the original game, while also managing to improve upon it in truly meaningful ways. In doing so, it once again becomes a standard-bearer for the survival horror genre, while also setting a new bar for Capcom as a developer, for video game remakes, and for the Resident Evil franchise as a whole.” Read the full review through here.
Resident Evil 4 is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PC.
