Resident Evil 8 has been at the centre of some leaks over the past couple of weeks. A leak emerged that dropped some interesting details on the game – from it being first person and featuring Ethan Winters again to the game having witch as a purser enemy and their being new wolf-like enemies – but this was followed by prolific Resident Evil leaker AestheticGamer saying the leak came from a scrapped build of the game, and that its development had been rebooted and it was years away from release.
Now, the pendulum swings in the other direction again. In a new video posted by GAMEZ.de, with information from leaker ChaoticClaire (via Rely on Horror), the information that Resident Evil 8’s development has been rebooted is incorrect, and that the game is maybe a year and a half to two years away from launch.
The leak also has other details, which make it sound like Resident Evil 8 might go for a much more gothic kind of atmosphere this time around. Apparently, the game will be set in Eastern Europe, in a snowy village area. There will also allegedly be a castle (though it’ll be smaller than the one in in Resident Evil 4), with medieval-themed enemies, such as zombies that’ll be wearing knight armour and will wield swords (which sounds quite a lot like Resident vil 4).
The wolf-like creatures are brought up again, as are one or two witches that will be hunting Ethan throughout the game. It’s also mentioned that Chris Redfield returns, “but with a twist”- and that’s all it says about that. There’s some other details as well, that might concern some RE fans. Allegedly, the game will be more action-oriented, closer to Resident Evil 7’s DLC, Not A Hero, in style.
The leak also says that previous information from AestheticGamer that the game’s director was changed during development is also incorrect. Apparently, the director has been with Capcom for a while, and was “previously a behind the scenes executive producer who directed one game.”
As with any leak, take this with a grain of salt. It’s especially hard to be sure with this one (or the ones before) because there’s conflicting information. Either way, stay tuned, and we’ll keep you updated in case we hear anything more.
