Resident Evil 8 is “Years Away”, Rebooted 6-7 Months Ago – Insider

Resident Evil 3

For many months after Capcom released Resident Evil 2, a re-imagined version of the PS One classic for current gen platforms, many assumed a remake of Resident Evil 3 was also coming. However, others assumed that there would be a brand new title at some point. Resident Evil 8, if you will. However, it seems such a project may have been in the works.

Aesthetic Gamer, also known as Dusk Golem on Resetera, had some information about Resident Evil 3’s remake before it was officially announced. Recently, he revealed that Resident Evil 8 is real but several years away. “There was a version of RE8 that was in development since late 2016, though it went on pause during 2017 due to needing more hands on for RE7’s DLC and RE2 (which was behind schedule at the time). Still, there was an RE8 version that was in the works for a few years.”

So what happened? The project would be “officially scrapped” and rebooted about six to seven months ago. “The ‘final’ RE8 version hasn’t even been in development for a full year yet. Now these reboots often go faster because some assets and such are carried over, but don’t expect RE8 anytime soon.”

You can also forget remakes for titles like Resident Evil: Code Veronica, Resident Evil 4 and the like. “There also won’t be any Resident Evil remakes out in the next few years after RE3. There is a couple other Capcom games being rebooted in the same vein as RE2 & RE3 though in the RE Engine, which should be seen pretty soon.” So the vaunted Dino Crisis remake could indeed be announced in the coming months.

Interestingly, it was noted that another Resident Evil game was in development which “will probably release next year.” However, it’s neither a remake nor Resident Evil 8 so your guess is as good as ours. Whatever it could be, we’ll have to wait a while for more information.

Thankfully, Resident Evil 3 is out on April 3rd for Xbox One, PS4 and PC, and should satisfy that zombie-killing itch. Check out the trailer for the terrifying Nemesis here.
