Sea of Stars launched yesterday for PC and consoles, and it seems the wait for the highly anticipated title has paid off. The retro RPG is currently sitting at an aggregate OpenCritic score of 89 after 74 reviews, and that acclaim, it turns out, is being reflected in the game’s commercial performance as well.
Taking to Twitter, developer Sabotage Studio has announced that Sea of Stars sold 100,000 copies across all platforms on just the first day of its release. That’s an impressive number, and doubly so when you consider the fact that the RPG is also available at no additional cost to subscribers of Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium.
Sea of Stars was announced back in 2020 via a Kickstarter campaign, and after continuing to impress with its subsequent showings, had built up quite a bit of buzz in the lead-up to its launch. The RPG is set in the same universe as Sabotage Studio’s previous game, sidescrolling action platformer The Messenger.
Sea of Stars is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC, and is also Steam Deck Verified. It will also get physical launch in early 2024.
