Much like other popular action adventure games this year, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the upcoming third entry in the rebooted Tomb Raider franchise that launches next month, will have New Game Plus mode too, it’s been confirmed.
All the skills that you acquire over the course of a regular playthrough, your weapons, outfits, equipment upgrades, and all of your gear will carry over into New Game Plus. But that’s not where things get interesting- rather, in New Game Plus, you get access to three “paths”- the Path of the Serpent, Jaguar, and Eagle. The Path of the Serpent focuses on stealth, Jaguar on action, and Eagle on traversal and resourcefulness.
Each path unlocks a further set of abilities that are best suited to that playstyle (meaning multiple playthroughs to maximize each playstyle add even more replayability to the game). It’s a very interesting way to handle New Game Plus- I can certainly see players sticking with this one for longer than they ordinarily would a single player game.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider’s experimental and out-of-the-box style with such stuff is certainly looking intriguing. Recently we learned that it will also have deeply customizable difficulty options for separate aspects of gameplay. Read more on that here. The game launches September 14 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
