Sonic Frontiers Will Take 20-30 Hours to Finish, Skill Tree and Level Ups Confirmed

Director Morio Kishimoto also talks about time attacks for previous games and how speedrunning Sonic Frontiers "might be a fun challenge."

With all that’s been said about Sonic Frontiers, it’s looking like a massive game. Sonic Team creative officer Takashi Iizuka previously spoke about the inspiration behind the “Open Zone” world. Director Morio Kishimoto has now told IGN that it will take about 20 to 30 hours for the average player to finish.

For completionists who want to see everything, this could easily double. Throughout Sonic’s journey, he’ll unlock new skills. As Kishimoto notes, “While this might be unusual for a level-based platformer, we decided to implement a skill tree and the ability to level Sonic up.”

Sonic’s speed, which can be levelled up, is indicated by an upgradeable speedometer. Kishimoto also teased players being able to speedrun through the game (much like in previous games). “In previous titles, Sonic fans have enjoyed time attacks for each stage. For Sonic Frontiers, doing a speed run for the entire game might be a fun challenge.”

Sonic Frontiers is out this Holiday season for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, PC and Nintendo Switch. Though release date hasn’t been announced, it’s unlikely to face a delay.
