Sonic Frontiers

Sega has finally revealed extensive gameplay footage of Sonic Frontiers, its upcoming open world title that’s out this Holiday season. As IGN First’s cover story for June, the seven-minute long video sees Sonic exploring a “mysterious island.” Check it out below.

Wide expanses of plains, forests and rocky environment contrast with ancient towers and ruins. All throughout, many of the Sonic tropes like springs, Rings, Grind Rails, and much more are present. There’s a significant amount of puzzle-solving as well, whether it’s arranging a statue to open a door, snuffing out flames or running on a strange circular wheel.

Solving these provides some mysterious heart item, which could represent an increase to health. As such, you can still boost, Homing Attack and drop to the ground, though the trademark Spin Dash seems to be absent. Sonic Frontiers is coming to the Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, PC and Nintendo Switch. Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks.
