Bethesda hasn’t shown an awful lot of Starfield since announcing it several years ago- in fact, other than its E3 showing earlier this year, we’ve barely seen any gameplay at all. Even so, through a series of behind-the-scenes videos, the publisher has shared plenty of information on what to expect for the upcoming space-faring RPG.
Another new video was recently uploaded, which features lead quest designer Will Shen answering fans’ questions about the game’s quests, companion characters, factions, and more. Shen talks about the general structure of the quests and side quests, which will include random encounters taking the form of dynamic side quests taking players to different locations. Additionally, unlike Fallout 4 (and similar to Skyrim), players will not be locked out of any faction’s questline by choosing to join another faction, with the developers deciding early on that they want players to be able to go through all faction questlines should they want to.
Meanwhile, Shen also reveals that companions will have a new function, which will allow players to back away from conversations with other NPCs should they hit a conversational brick wall and ask their companions to step in on their behalf- which may or may not end up having the intended consequences. Check out the video below for more details.
Starfield is set to launch for Xbox Series X/S and PC in the first half of 2023. As for when we might see it next, recent reports have indicated that Microsoft could be planning an Xbox event for Q1 2023, so we might not have to wait too long to get another look at the RPG.
