Sony has announced its newest range of PlayStation Now titles which will be available from today onwards. These include Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age, Square Enix’s enhanced version of the PS2 RPG classic set in Ivalice, and NetherRealm’s Mortal Kombat 11 (sans the DLC, of course).

Other titles include roguelike shooter Fury Unleashed, which supports solo play along with local and online co-op; Kerbal Space Program: Enhanced Edition where players control the Kerbals as they struggle to build their own spacecraft (complete with realistic physics and aerodynamics); and Super Time Force Ultra, a run ‘n gun platformer where you rewind time to battle alongside past versions of yourself.

Sandbox zombie survival title Unturned will also be available and supports split-screen multiplayer along with 24 players online. None of these titles have a removal date so you can enjoy them at your leisure. Sony is still rumored to be working on its “counterpunch” for Xbox Game Pass and it could very well incorporate PlayStation Now. Time will tell so stay tuned for more details.

Multiple titles in Square Enix's legendary RPG series will find their way onto Sony's streaming service throughout the year.

There are few franchises that can really manage to stand the test of time. One of those select few happens to be Final Fantasy. The series began all the way in the NES era and has continued on in some form to this very day with 15 (soon to be 16) mainline titles and a variety of spin-offs and individual sequels. With Final Fantasy 7‘s release in 1997, the brand also became closely associated with PlayStation, and now that game will appropriately be the first in several classic entries coming to the PS Now service.

As announced earlier today, five classic Final Fantasy titles will be coming to PS Now starting this month with the remastered version of the original Final Fantasy 7. In October, Final Fantasy 8 Remastered will follow, and then in November will be Final Fantasy 9 to round out the original PS1 released trio of titles. Then for December, it will be a double whammy with HD remasters of Final Fantasy 10 and its sequel, 10-2. There will be a number skip here as 11 was a MMO title, but 2022 will begin with the release of Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age.

These titles will begin coming to the service starting on September 7th, which you can download or stream on all PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 as well as compatible PCs.

Microsoft has announced its first wave of titles coming to Xbox Game Pass this February, starting with Ghost of a Tale (PC) along with Project Winter and The Falconeer (Android, PC, console) on February 4th. Project Winter serves as a nice alternative to Among Us, especially with its survival mechanics. The Falconeer, meanwhile, was a decent launch title for Xbox Series X/S especially with its aesthetics.

On February 11th, Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age (console and PC) and Frontier’s Jurassic World Evolution (Android and console) arriv on the service. The underrated Stealth Inc. 2: A Game of Clones (Android and console) is also available on the same. Wolfenstein: Youngblood for Android rounds out the list.

Thankfully, not too many games are leaving this month. De Blob and Ninja Gaiden 2 are leaving from the console side along with World of Horror on PC from February 15th. Cult classic Shadows of the Damned will be gone on February 16th. Stay tuned for more details on other Game Pass announcements later this month.

In November 2019, Microsoft announced that a large number of Final Fantasy titles would be coming to Xbox Game Pass in the future. Since then, of the ones that are confirmed, a few (Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 8 Remastered, Final Fantasy 9, and Final Fantasy 15) have been added to the service’s catalog, but many others remain missing.

Final Fantasy 10, Final Fantasy 10-2, Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age, Final Fantasy 13, Final Fantasy 13-2, and Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy 13 were all also among the games that were confirmed for Xbox Game Pass, but these haven’t yet shown up in the service’s library. However, Microsoft confirms that though their arrival will be a bit belated, they’re still planned for Game Pass, and will be coming in 2021.

A Microsoft spokesperson said to True Achievements: “As we announced at X019, we are excited to bring the Final Fantasy franchise to gamers with Xbox Game Pass. We have done so throughout 2020 and will continue to do so in 2021 and beyond. We look forward to announcing specific launch dates for more Final Fantasy titles in the future.”

Meanwhile, Microsoft and Square Enix have also been in discussions to bring Final Fantasy 14 to Xbox One for some time now, so here’s hoping that happens sooner rather than later. Whenever that does happen, it’s unlikely it will come to Xbox Game Pass.

The PC version also removes Denuvo.

Last year, we saw a lot of legacy titles from the classic RPG series, Final Fantasy, finally come to a variety of systems they had been absent from, namely, the Nintendo Switch and the Xbox One. One of those was the classic Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age, an updated re-release of FF12 that reworked a lot of systems of the game’s complex combat. Oddly, while those releases on Nintendo and Microsoft systems saw some QoL updates, those updates never came to the already existing PS4 and PC versions. That is, until now.

Updates have finally appeared for both of those versions that add the ability to reset Jobs, as well as expanding gambits to 3 sets. The PC version also removed the Denuvo anti-temper DRM, which is sure to make a lot of people happy, and the PS4 version adds an OST option under the music menu. This finally puts these releases of the game on par with the later versions.

Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.

Version 1.08 (PlayStation 4)

Job reset function has been added.

Gambit system has been expanded to three sets.

“OST” has been added under the config menu “Music.”

Version 1.0.40 (PC)

Job reset function has been added.

Gambit system has been expanded to three sets.

[Removed 3rd-party DRM “Denuvo Anti-Tamper.”

At X019, Square Enix was on hand to announce that numerous Final Fantasy titles would be coming to Xbox Game Pass. This includes Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 8 Remastered, Final Fantasy 9, Final Fantasy 10 and 10-2, Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age, Final Fantasy 13/13-2/Lightning Returns and Final Fantasy 15. But wait, there’s more.

For the first time ever, Kingdom Hearts will be coming to Xbox One, with Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix and Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue coming to the platform. Even more amazing is that there will be a demo for Kingdom Hearts 3 available today.

The above Final Fantasy games will arrive on Game Pass, along with the Kingdom Hearts titles on Xbox One, some time in 2020. Kingdom Hearts 3 is currently available for Xbox One and PS4 and will receive some new DLC in December with ReMind. This adds new story content, new bosses and additional scenarios to play as other characters. Stay tuned for more details and updates from X019 in the meantime.

Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age for the Nintendo Switch takes the second spot.

Despite relatively mixed reception, Days Gone has clearly had a strong start in terms of commercial performance. In the UK, it topped the charts in its debut week, before retaining that position the following week, while also becoming the biggest retail launch for a game in the country for 2019. In Japan, too, the game has enjoyed a very impressive debut, selling over 114,000 units to take the top spot, as per sales data provided by Famitsu.

Meanwhile, the Nintendo Switch release of Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age has debuted in second place, but sees a significant gulf in sales from the top spot, with over 20,000 copies sold. Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization Deluxe Edition is another new entry in the top 10 this week, occupying third place with over 17,000 copies sold, while the final new entry, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen for the Switch, is in at sixth place with over 10,000 units sold.

Meanwhile, Nintendo evergreens like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Yoshi’s Crafted World, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe still continue to exhibit strong legs.

On the hardware front, things remain largely unchanged. The Switch is still the highest selling console, same as last week (and several weeks before that), with over 42,000 units moved. The PS4 collectively sold over 14,000 units (base model and PS4 Pro sales combined).

You can find the Japanese hardware and software sales charts for the week ending April 28 below.

The Switch version holds up very well to the PS4 one as per this new comparison.

Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age comes to Xbox One and Nintendo Switch later this month. Ahead of that release, courtesy of Direct Feed Games, we have a comparison video for the Switch and PS4 versions of the title, putting their graphics head-to-head.

It’s remarkable how well the Switch version holds up- the differences are minimal and very hard to spot. A lot of this probably has to do with the fact that The Zodiac Age is a remaster of a PS2 game—a very good remaster, but the core game is still a PS2 one, and the Switch’s power far exceeds that of the PS2 to begin with. Even so, the two versions being compare here are almost on par with each other, with some very minor differences in lighting and shadows intermittently visible if you really want to look for them. On the whole, it seems like there isn’t much of a price to pay for portability with The Zodiac Age on Switch.

Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age is out now on PS4 and PC, and will launch for Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on April 30. If you want to see more footage of the game running on the Switch, make sure to check it out for yourself here.

The fan-favorite game has surpassed expectations in the transition to Switch.

Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age launches in April on Nintendo Switch. The Zodiac Age was an outstanding update of an already incredible game when it launched on the PS4, and just the ability to play it on the go will probably be enough to make most people double-dip when it launches.

However, just in case you were worried about how the game might hold up on the Switch, don’t be! Thanks to some footage of the game running on the Switch from the PAX show floor, courtesy of GameXplain and Nintendo World Report, which you can see for yourself below, it seems clear that the game has survived the transition to the Switch remarkably well. It looks every bit as gorgeous here as you would hope for.

Owing to some problems with the setup, the sound for the demo units was gone, so sadly, we can’t listen to the beautiful soundtrack of Final Fantasy 12 in this footage. Still, we can see the game, and what we see looks great.

Get Final Fantasy 7 on your cartridge-based Nintendo system now.

With Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 10, Final Fantasy 10-2, and Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age all due to launch on the Nintendo Switch and Xbox One over the next two months (and with the latter game getting some new extra features with these versions), some of you may be excited to get the games on your systems already. The good news is, the Switch versions of these games are now all available for pre-load via the Nintendo eShop.

Final Fantasy 10 and 10-2 can be pre-loaded now with a 14GB download (the final installation will be over 29GB); Final Fantasy 7, which will cost $16, is 3.7GB and available to pre-load now as well. Finally, Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age, is miraculously only 12.6GB in file size with no additional installation necessary. It too is available to pre-load now.

It still feels surreal that these games will be coming to the Switch, a Nintendo console, at all—Nintendo has never received a mainline Final Fantasy game past 6 previously, so this makes for a dramatic change. If you want to play it, Final Fantasy 9 is already out on Switch and Xbox one (and PS4, and PC) right now.
