Famitsu has released the latest video game software and hardware sales data from Japan for the week ending July 14, and not much has changed this week. Super Mario Maker 2 was on top of the charts last week (where it’s been since it launched), and that’s where it is this week as well, selling over 54,000 copies.

God Eater 3 recently released in Japan for the Nintendo Switch, and it has debuted strongly (especially for a port), occupying second place with over 20,000 copies sold. Surprisingly though, Final Fantasy 14: Shadowbringers, the excellent expansion of the popular MMO that debuted in second place last week, has completely fallen out of the top 10.

The rest of the top 10 doesn’t see a lot of changes. The usual suspects like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Minecraft’s Switch version, and Pokemon Let’s Go are all still in there, while other recent top performers like Yo-kai Watch 4, Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball, and Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle figure into the top 10 as well (with the latter occupying two spots, one each for the PS4 and Switch versions).

On the hardware side of things, the Switch is still the highest selling console, as it usually is, but it sees a drop in sales, having moved over 55,000 units across the week as opposed to last week’s 75k+. Meanwhile, the PS4 sold nearly 11,000 units.

You can take a look at the full software and hardware charts below.

Bandai Namco’s monster hunting franchise is coming to the Switch next month with God Eater 3. You won’t have to wait to try it out however, as a demo is live now, but those playing the game on the other systems its available on get a little extra action of their own.

The demo for the Switch version of the game is live now. It includes local multiplayer of up to four players so you get a good sample of the game’s full scope. It’s also available for prepurchase if you like what you play. As a reminder, this version of the game will also have costumes from Tales of Vesperia.

The game is already available on the PS4 and PC, and those versions will get their own little bonus. As announced on a livestream, they will get costumes from the upcoming Code Vein (that game is being developed by the same team). You can check them out below.

God Eater 3 is available now for PlayStation 4 and PC, and the Code Vein costumes will come with the upcoming 1.40 update. The Switch version will launch July 12th.

A lot of focus is on Monster Hunter World right now, with its incredible sales and its expansion coming out later this year. It’s not the only game in the monster hunting genre getting some extra post-release content however, as God Eater 3 will be getting some new additions too, as well as a demo for the upcoming Switch port.

The latest God Eater Official Broadcast, which you can see below, detailed content coming with the 1.40 patch, which will include a Time Attack Mode. In the mode you will be tasked with taking down an enemy with tiered medals awarded based on how much time you take. The game will also continue to get updates past 1.40, including collaboration costumes for both the PlayStation 4 and PC versions of the game. We also know a Switch version is coming later this year, and now it’s been confirmed that it will get a demo. No date was given for when the demo would release, but we know it will include local multiplayer support (thanks to Gemastu for the translation).

God Eater 3 is available now for PlayStation 4 and PC. The Switch version will launch July 12th.

It even gets some exclusive features and costumes, in fact.

God Eater 3 will be coming to Nintendo Switch later this year, and Nintendo fans will be happy to know that the Switch version will not be compromised in any way. The producers of God Eater 3 have confirmed that the Nintendo version will be identical to the PC and PS4 ones.

“Ever since we announced the title of the game, fans have been clamoring for a Switch version of God Eater 3,” Producer Yuya Tomiyama said on the game’s official Japanese site (translated by Nintendo Everything). “We heard many people say, ‘It’s tough/impossible to play this game at home on the TV for me’; ‘I want to play multiplayer with my friends in-person’; ‘I’m used to playing this game as a portable experience, so I want a portable version.’

“Because of this, while we were working on developing the main game and the post-launch free updates, we had a separate team investigating the possibility of a port. We weighed the pros and cons of porting the game for a long time, but I’m happy to say that today we can finally confirm a Switch release for all the fans.

“The contents of the game will be the same as the PS4 and Steam versions. In addition to this, we are adding special features unique to the Switch version, such as local co-op multiplayer.”

Essentially, then, Switch owners are getting what might be the definitive version of the game. Not only does the Switch version maintain content parity with the PS4 and PC versions, but it also gets exclusive features like local co-op, as well as the Tales of Vesperia costumes that are coming only to it (don’t ask me why).

The question now is if this is enough to have the game do well on Nintendo’s console. With Monster Hunter having made the leap to other systems for now, there’s a vacuum for that genre on the Switch—maybe God Eater 3 can fill that void and find success along the way.

It launches this July, so it won’t be a long wait.

God Eater 3, the hunting action game that launched recently for PlayStation and PC, will soon be coming to the Nintendo Switch, Bandai Namco announced today. The Switch version will be launching very shortly—July 12, to be specific—and will come with Tales of Vesperia costumes.

Weirdly enough, these costumes will be exclusive to the Switch version only. I get platform-specific exclusives, but Tales of Vesperia costumes seems like such an odd and random pick. Although, I guess with the God Eater series producer now also heading the Tales series, it kind of makes sense? That said, it’s still not clear why exactly these costumes are exclusive to the Switch, when Tales of Vesperia itself is now available on all platforms

That apart, in the absence of Monster Hunter on Switch (the port of the 3DS game Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate notwithstanding), God Eater may end up finding an audience for itself, especially in Japan.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate boasted extremely impressive sales figures in last week’s Media Create charts for the highest selling software in Japan, debuting at the top spot with over 1.2 million units sold in just three days. Nintendo’s fighter remains on top this week as well. It’s seen a drop of over 60 per cent in its second week, selling over 400,000 units to retain the perch position.

Meanwhile, God Eater 3 and Judgment have both debuted strongly as well, charting in the second and third positions respectively. God Eater 3 sold over 150,000 units, while Judgment also enjoyed strong sales, with a little over 148,000 units sold. Pokemon Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Eevee!, which has been enjoying strong sales consistently ever since its launch, sold well once again, coming in at fourth position with over 108,000 units sold.

Other Nintendo Switch evergreens such as Super Mario Party, Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 2, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe all continued to exhibit strong legs as always, and are all in the top 10, making for a top half of the charts that is very Nintendo dominated.

On the hardware front, in spite of the massive surge in sales last week, the Nintendo Switch refused to drop off, topping hardware charts yet again and actually selling slightly more than last week’s charts, moving over 281,000 units. The PS4 also enjoyed similar growth, selling over 81,000 units collectively (base model and Pro sales combined), up from roughly 75,000 units last week.

You can take a look at the full hardware and software charts below.

A pretty stylish setup for the next game in the action series.

God Eater 3, the third entry in the God Eater franchise (big shock to a lot of you, I am sure), launches next year, and today, Bandai Namco revealed the opening, intro cinematic for the game. The opening movie is by Ufotable, and it looks overwhelmingly stylish and visually very striking.

The movie shows us the locales, characters, and monsters we will be encountering in the course of the adventure, as well as showing us some of the moves we will be able to pull off against them. God Eater is a series of games that are similar to Monster Hunter in many ways, though ever since Monster Hunter upped its game with Monster Hunter World earlier this year, it remains to be seen whether or not the competition can match it any longer.

You can check out the opening move for yourself below (unless you want to go into the game blind; as I said, it does show some stuff that will be in the title). God Eater 3 launches for PS4 and PC in Japan on December 13 and on February 6, 2019 in the west.

The third instalment in Bandai Namco's beastly hack and slash series is coming to PS4 and PC.

After announcing that God Eater 3 would be out this December for Japanese audiences, Bandai Namco Entertainment has confirmed that the game will be heading to North America as well, in early 2019. It will be available for PS4 and PC via Steam.

If you haven’t seen it already, check out the new trailer below (with English subtitles). God Eater 3 takes place after the second game, with a devastating event causing Fenrir to be destroyed. The God Eaters are still fighting the good fight against the Aragami, but their control seems paper-thin at this point.

Along with dual-wielding, God Eater 3 will introduce new characters and new mechanics, like Engage, which buffs a teammate that fights in close proximity to you. You can expect new weapons and weapon types with the same hack and slash gameplay that made the previous titles so engaging.

God Eater 3 will be out on December 13th for Japan. Aside from its early 2019 release window for North America, we’re still waiting for more information (including details on the European release).

After having a pretty strong showing at Gamescom 2018 with reveals for Dontnod’s Twin Mirror and Supermassive’s Man of Medan, Bandai Namco Entertainment is now heading to Tokyo Games Show. The publisher announced its lineup recently and confirmed either new trailers, playable games, or both for attendees for several titles.

For the important console and PC games that will be at the show, see below. A more comprehensive list (which includes mobile and browser games) can be found on the Tokyo Game Show 2018 website. More information on a proper schedule and timings for live streams will be provided later.

Numerous big-name titles like Ace Combat 7, Soulcalibur 6, and God Eater 3 will be playable, along with having new footage. Soulcalibur 6 is out in October, so this is a good time for trying it out beforehand. Ace Combat 7 is releasing in January 2019 but God Eater 3 still doesn’t have a release date. The former is in development for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

Interestingly enough, Bandai Namco’s other hack and slash title, Code Vein, isn’t listed for the Tokyo Game Show. We know the project was delayed to 2019, but no other information has emerged since then. Tokyo Game Show will take place from September 20th to 23rd so we’ll see if things change.

Lineup

The God Eater Eighth Anniversary Thanksgiving Day event will finally bring new info.

Though the eighth anniversary of the first God Eater was on February 4th, Bandai Namco didn’t really reveal any new details for God Eater 3 or the mobile RPG title God Eater: Resonant Ops. It did announce that the eight anniversary Thanksgiving Day Event would be taking part on March 24th with a lottery for 200 lucky fans to attend.

It’s at this event that news on God Eater 3 and Resonant Ops will be provided. So if you’ve been holding out for news on the next big installment in the franchise, you’re going to have wait a bit longer. Those who wish to attend the event can enter the lottery here till March 4th. The winners will be confirmed on March 13th.

God Eater 3 takes place after the events of the first game and features a new character with new God Arc weapons. With Fenrir having fallen and the Aragami roaming wild, it should be interesting to see where the series goes in the third game.
