After initially releasing on the Nintendo Switch, Game Freak is bringing Little Town Hero to Steam. The PC version will launch on June 30th, which is about one week after its PS4 release. Unlike the Switch and PS4 versions, Game Freak will be self-publishing the PC version.

The story follows a young protagonist in an isolated village. Why aren’t the residents allowed to leave and what’s up with the massive castle guarding the sole gate of entry? Before those questions can be answered, a Monster suddenly appears and disturbs the village’s peace, prompting our hero into action.

Little Town Hero received criticism over the complexity of its combat system which focused on Ideas and using them in battle. At least the soundtrack is fairly good thanks to Undertale’s Toby Fox serving as a composer. Stay tuned for more details on the Steam version in the coming weeks, including any potential improvements.

After launching on the Nintendo Switch to middling reviews, Game Freak’s Little Town Hero is coming to PS4. Though only a Japanese release date was announced last month, a new PlayStation Blog post has revealed that the RPG will launch on June 2nd in North America. It will also receive a physical release with the Big Idea Edition.

The Big Idea Edition contains your usual physical goodies – a PS4 copy of the game, an art book, the official soundtrack on CD, a poster and lapel pin set. Game Freak also announced an Easy Mode for the game that will reduce attack and defense on enemy Dazzits. You can also expect less Special Effects from foes to manifest.

For more information on Little Town Hero, you can check out a 20 minute long gameplay preview here. It should be interesting to see how the PS4 version improves upon the base game’s visuals and whether Easy Mode translates to a more fun experience. Game Freak might be the Pokemon studio, but they do regularly make independent stuff of their own as well. Just last year in October, they released the RPG Little Town Hero– and though it came out exclusively for the Switch, it won’t be maintaining its exclusivity much longer.

It’s been confirmed that Little Town Hero will be coming out for the PS4 on April 23- at least in Japan. There’s no word yet on whether it will be launching in the west as well. The game’s PS4 version will be published by Japanese publisher Rainy Frog. Meanwhile, a physical release in Japan for the game’s Switch version has also been confirmed.

Speaking of physical releases, it was recently confirmed that Little Town Hero will see a physical release for the Switch in North America this Spring. While Pokemon Sword and Shield took up all the talking space due to all the strong feelings surrounding it, developer Game Freak actually managed to get another fun little RPG our last year with Little Town Hero. The game features a young hero who has never known the world outside his village. This changes when monsters begin coming over the walls surrounding his home, and he must battle them. It’s also about to get a physical release later this year.

As announced via NIS America, they will release a special edition physical copy of the game. It will include the full game on cart, a poster, an artbook, a pin set, soundtrack and a premium box. It will retail for $49.99 USD and as of now is only available on NIS America’s website to pre-order through here.

Little Town Hero is available now to download digitally exclusively on Nintendo Switch. As of now there’s no slated date for the physical release, but is said to be coming Spring of this year.

Fresh off of a 20 minute gameplay preview in Japanese, Game Freak’s Little Town Hero recently received an hour long gameplay video courtesy of GameXplain. The video showcases our hero traveling the village, talking to its citizens and learning the basics of combat. Check it out below.

Little Town Hero’s battle system is interesting because of how it handles Actions and Ideas. Simply put, you need to use Power to convert Ideas into Actions called Dazzits. If your Dazzit is superior to the enemy’s, you can break them. The objective is to break the enemy’s Dazzits while maintaining yours through multiple rounds.

It’s intriguing, for sure, but perhaps the biggest highlight of this video is the music by Undertale creator Toby Fox. Fox served as co-composer on the title and the upbeat tunes feel right at home. Little Town Hero is out on October 16th for the Nintendo Switch so stay tuned for more information in the coming days.

While Game Freak’s annual Pokemon series may be soaking up a lot of the attention with Pokemon Sword and Shield coming next month, there is another game coming from the studio in Little Town Hero. It looks to be a delightful romp where a young hero must defend his village after monsters mysteriously start appearing. Today we got 20 minutes of gameplay footage of the title.

Via the official Game Freak channel, YouTuber Ponyta Ishii played an extended amount of the game, which you can check out below. The video is in Japanese, so you may miss some things if you can’t understand any of the language, but you can still get a good feel of the flow of the game and how the combat system works. It’s worth checking out.

Game Freak have got a major release lined up, with Pokemon Sword and Shield dropping in November, but that’s not the only Switch game the developer is releasing this year. Their new RPG, Little Town Hero, also releases this year, coming next month. Recently, they showcased a new trailer showing off the game’s combat and the monsters we’ll be coming up against, and now they’ve put up another new trailer.

This one focuses on the music and the game’s characters. A few samples of the tracks in the game’s OST – co-composed by Toby Fox of Undertale fame – can be heard in the trailer, while several of the game’s core and supporting characters are also shown off and introduced. There’s also plenty of gameplay footage in there, mostly focusing on the combat, but above all else, it’s the art style that impresses. Take a look below.

Little Town Hero is out exclusively for the Switch on October 16. Pre-purchasing and pre-loading are live on the eShop now, and the game is priced at just $24.99.

Game Freak’s upcoming RPG Little Town Hero has received a new short trailer. At 30 seconds, it offers a brief view of the monsters you’ll battle and the abilities available in combat. Check it out below – another video will release on September 27th, hopefully containing more details and gameplay.

Little Town Hero takes place in a small village whose denizens are not allowed to leave. Our hero is different – he wants to explore the world and coincidentally, a “Monster” shows up to attack the village. Using a strange Red Stone and help from the townsfolk, our hero will need to fight back against overwhelming forces.

While Pokemon sucks out the air of the room from Game Freak, naturally, it can often be easy to forget the company actually does other games. It was announced last year the company was working on a new RPG, at the time tentatively titled TOWN. Now we get an official rename (though that slipped out a little earlier in the year) to Little Town Hero and a date for when the charming title will be in our hands.

Announced via today’s Nintendo Direct, the game will be set in a small town that’s isolated from the rest of the world. When a monster appears, the game’s curious protagonist must defend the small town from this mysterious new threat, as well as unravel secrets about the outside world beyond the walls of his home.

Game Freak’s Pokemon Sword and Shield are out for the Nintendo Switch in November of this year, but that’s not the only Switch exclusive that they’ve got lined up. In September of last year during a particularly packed Nintendo Direct, Game Freak announced Town, a new IP which is a turn-based RPG.

When Town was announced, it was also confirmed that its official name hadn’t been finalized, and that Town was merely a tentative title. Now, we might know what the game will end up being called when it launches (whenever that happens). As Japanese Nintendo reports, Game Freak have filed a trademark application in Japan for something called “Little Town Hero”– and it’s really not that hard to connect the dots here.

When it was announced last year, Game Freak claimed that Town would be out for the Switch in 2019, but there’s been absolutely zero updates on the game since then, so it seems unlikely that they’ll be able to stick to that date. Either way, if they’ve come up with a final name, that’s at least some kind of a development- so at least we know the project is moving further in development.
