The newly-released turn-based RPG debuted at No. 3 in the latest weekly physical UK charts, but failed to sell as well as other recent Mario RPG releases.

The back-to-back releases of Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remakes has been a dream come true for fans of Mario RPGs, and Nintendo has capped off that string of releases with Mario and Luigi: Brothership– though it seems like the newly released turn-based RPG seems to have attracted a smaller audience at launch compared to the aforementioend titles (in the UK, at least).

That’s as per data shared by GamesIndustry’s Christopher Dring on Twitter, who revealed that though Mario and Luigi: Brothership debuted in the No. 3 spot of the physical weekly UK charts for last week, its launch physical sales in the region are 23 percent lower than the Super Mario RPG remake, and 29 percent lower than the Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remake.

Of course, it remains to be seen how the game sells over a prolonged period, and how well it does in other regions, but early data does seem to be indicating that Brothership isn’t attracting quite the same level of attention.

Mario and Luigi: Brothership is available on the Nintendo Switch.

Launch sales were 23% lower than last year’s Super Mario RPG remake, and 29% down vs the Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door remake. May as well just stick with those remakes, right Nintendo?

The remake has enjoyed solid sales on the Switch since its launch earlier this May, as per updated sales figures shared by Nintendo.

Fans of Mario RPGs have been treated to an unexpected degree this past year, and Nintendo is continuing to reap the benefits as well. Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door saw the release of an acclaimed remake for the Switch in May, and the RPG is maintaining decent momentum where sales are concerned.

As part of its latest quarterly earnings report, Nintendo has revealed that as of September 30, the Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remake has sold 1.94 million units worldwide. As of the end of the previous quarter, the RPG had sold 1.76 million units, which means it sold close to an additional 200,000 units of the fiscal year’s second quarter.

Nintendo has also announced updated sales figures for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, and the Switch’s current ten best-selling first-party titles, in addition to updated numbers for the Switch itself, which stands at 146.04 million units sold worldwide.

Meanwhile, Nintendo's remake of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door debuted at second place in the monthly charts.

Four years on from its original release, Ghost of Tsushima was the best-selling game in the United States for the month of May, as per regional sales data provided by Circana analyst Mat Piscatella on Twitter. Sony and Sucker Punch’s open world samurai epic launched for PC that month, and the port’s release propelled the game up from #71 in April straight to the top game in May.

In second place was the newly released Nintendo Switch remake of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, though it’s worth noting that, as always with Nintendo titles in Circana charts, its digital sales are not counted here.

Other new May releases also debuted in the charts, with Homeworld 3 slotting in at No. 14 and F1 24 coming in at No. 18. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 followed behind in third place, with Helldivers 2, which remains the best-selling game of the year overall in the US, took the No. 4 slot.

On the hardware front, the PS5 was once again the best-selling console for May in the US in terms of both unit and dollar sales, with the Nintendo Switch taking second place in the former metric, and the Xbox Series X/S in the latter.

The Nintendo Switch RPG tops the physical Japanese charts for a third week in a row, selling an additional 19,000-plus copies.

When it launched a couple of weeks ago, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door’s Switch remake topped Japanese sales charts on debut with over 115,000 physical units sold in the region upon release, and a couple weeks later, it still remains in pole position. As per newly released weekly sales data by Famitsu, the remake has topped Japanese charts for a third week running, having sold an additional 19,000-plus units over the course of last week.

Interestingly enough, every single game in the top 10 is a Switch title, which, of course, has often been the case in the Japanese weekly charts over recent years in particular. Of those ten games, in fact, the only game to not have been developed and published by Nintendo is the Microsoft-published Minecraft, which sits in fourth place with over 4,000 units sold.

On the hardware front, meanwhile, the Nintendo Switch was, as it usually is, the best-selling console in Japan last week. It moved over 53,000 units, and was followed in second place by the PS5, which trails by quite a healthy margin, having sold over 21,000 units.

You can check out the full hardware and physical software sales charts for the week ending June 9 below.

The turn-based RPG remake launched for the Nintendo Switch last month, and was met with widespread critical acclaim.

Widely considered one of the best games in the GameCube’s stellar library, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is a game that fans had been begging to see a revival of for ages, and now that it has been remade for the Nintendo Switch, it is, predictably enough, being met with near-unanimous praise from critics and players alike. To highlight the former, in fact, Nintendo has released an accolades trailer for the recently released RPG. Check it out below.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door’s Switch version is a faithful recreation of the original GameCube game, though it does come with various tweaks and enhancements, including graphical upgrades, some alterations to the writing, a number of new quality-of-life features, and even new boss fights, among other things.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door’s critical acclaim is also being reflected in its sales, with the remake having topped sales charts in both Japan and the UK in its debut week.

The remake fails to outsell the GameCube original or last year's Super Mario RPG remake, but performs better than the previous Paper Mario at launch.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door’s Nintendo Switch remake was the biggest new release last week, and unsurprisingly, the game has got off to a solid start with its sales all over the world, reflecting its strong critical acclaim. As per the newest charts for weekly physical software and hardware sales in Japan released by Famitsu, the remake was the best-selling game in the region last week, selling over 115,000 units.

The means the Switch remake sold less than the original GameCube version did upon release (over 137,000 units), but considering the face that the former will have seen a significantly higher share of digital sales – which, of course, aren’t included in Famitsu’s weekly charts – there’s a good chance that the remake ultimately ended up outperforming the original game by launch.

Meanwhile, it also feel short by the launch performance of last year’s Super Mario RPG remake (over 301,000 units sold) by quite a margin, though it did outsell 2020’s Paper Mario: The Origami King at launch (over 109,000 units sold).

On the hardware front, the Nintendo Switch was once again the best-selling console of the week, moving over 48,000 units, while the PS5 followed behind with over 23,000 units sold.

You can check out the full hardware and physical software charts for the week ending May 26 below.

The newly released RPG outsold Super Mario RPG remake's launch sales in the UK, and matched the initial sales of the previous Paper Mario title.

Demand for a remake of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door had been high for a long time, and now that the beloved RPG has been brought over to the Switch, its initial sales are reflecting that high demand.

As per data shared by GamesIndustry’s Christopher Dring on Twitter, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door was on top of last week’s charts for the highest selling games in the UK in terms of physical sales. As per Dring, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door’s Switch remake has not only seen higher initial sales than last year’s remake of Super Mario RPG, it has also matched the launch sales of 2020’s Paper Mario: The Origami King.

How well the game will end up selling in the long run remains to be seen, but based on its initial sales and the widespread critical acclaim it has enjoyed, hopefully, the remake will perform well on the charts all over the world.

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door is No.1 in the UK boxed charts. It had a bigger launch than the Super Mario RPG remaster, with opening week sales basically identical to Paper Mario: The Origami King. That’s a great result. Bodes well for Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD

New details have emerged on some of the new features you can expect in the acclaimed RPG's upcoming remake.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door’s upcoming remake is continuing to generate buzz in the lead-up to its release next month, which is no surprise, given the immense legacy of the GameCube original. From a content and gameplay standpoint, it looks like the remake is going to be a pretty straightforward one, but Nintendo is still adding in some new features to modernize the experience.

Some of these were revealed in a recently published previews. One in particular that fans of the original game are sure to appreciate is the Partner Ring, which as per IGN, now allows you to instantly swap party members during combat with the press of a button rather than having going into the menus each time. Meanwhile, there’s also a new badge in the remake called Nostalgic Tunes, which, when equipped, will switch to the original game’s soundtrack rather than the remake’s remixed tracks.

Players will also find new NPCs in the city of Rogueport who’ll help out in various ways. For instance, there’s a new Toad Battle Master who will give you tips related to combat and even allow you to use a battle arena where you will be able to practice all of your attacks without the threat of damage from enemies.

Then there’s Ian Foomus, who will also be present in Rogueport’s Trouble Center, serving as a guide for side quests- which means the original game’s infamous backtracking should be less of a menace in the remake. According to Nintendo Life, you’ll have to pay Ian Foomus to receive hints, but all hints you receive will also be logged in your journal.

Additionally, you’ll also be able to receive hints from your archaeologist Goomba companion Goombella at any time with the press of a button. Meanwhile, the remake will also feature new music tracks and concept art in the Sound and Art Galleries.

Nintendo recently also released a new overview trailer for the remake, detailing its combat, badges, story, and more. Check it out through here.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door launches for the Nintendo Switch on May 23. As per recent reports, reviews will begin going live a couple days ahead of release, on May 21.
