Intelligent Systems’ Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is now available on the Nintendo Switch, retailing for $59.99. As a remake of the 2004 GameCube title of the same name, it offers improved visuals (albeit at 30 FPS) and new quality-of-life features while maintaining the same story and combat. Check out the launch trailer here.

The story focuses on Mario exploring the regions around Rogueport, built on the site of a prosperous town that mysteriously fell into ruin. An ancient treasure awaits underground behind the titular Thousand-Year Door, and it’s up to Mario to collect the seven Crystal Stars to unseal it.

New features in the remake include a badge to switch back to the original soundtrack and instantly swapping party members in combat. You can practice in a new battle arena by speaking to the Toad Battle Mastery, perfecting the timing of blocks and attacks. Meanwhile, the Trouble Center’s Ian Foomus will provide hints to side quests, provided you have coin.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is only 5.1 GB on the Nintendo Switch. Head here to see the remade intro.
