Nintendo has released a new trailer for Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door on the Nintendo Switch, showcasing the intro. Much like Mario vs. Donkey Kong, it features gorgeous new graphics and animations. Check it out below.

As the story follows, there once was a prosperous town where people lived happy lives. One day, tragedy struck, as a cataclysm caused it to sink into the Earth. Over time, a new town, Rogueport, emerged, and it wasn’t long before rumors spread of the ancient city that lay underground with a treasure seemingly awaiting behind the Thousand-Year Door.

Naturally, this is where Mario and Peach come in with a map that supposedly leads to the treasure. Things only get crazier from there as players embark on a journey to rescue the princess and solve the mystery behind the cataclysm.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door launches on May 23rd for Nintendo Switch. Stay tuned for more details and gameplay in the meantime.
