Nintendo has released an overview trailer for Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, breaking down the story, setting, and combat mechanics players can expect. Check it out below.

It all starts with Mario receiving an invitation from Princess Peach to travel to Rogueport in search of a mysterious treasure. After Peach’s kidnapping by the X-Nauts, Mario is off to the rescue, though there are key moments where you’ll control the Princess during her confinement. The hero’s paper form allows for otherwise impossible feats during his journey, like fitting through narrow alleys and transforming into a paper aeroplane to cross large distances.

The classic timing-based combat is intact, where pressing a button before an attack’s impact will make it more effective. Mario can equip Badges that provide new abilities, rely on other party members like Goombella and even receive assistance from an audience depending on their performance.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door launches on May 23rd for Nintendo Switch, with reviews rumored to go live on May 21st. Fresh previews will reportedly drop today, so stay tuned for more details.
