Atlus' 2012 RPG could be in line for an imminent PC announcement and launch.

There’s been plenty of buzz surrounding Persona since yesterday. Shortly after it was confirmed that Atlus would be part of the lineup of developers and publishers with something to show at the upcoming PC Gaming Show, Atlus teased “exciting news” for the same. Not long afterward, reports emerged from insiders claiming that Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden were both headed to PC via Steam.

Now, more evidence has emerged that points that an imminent announcement and release for the latter. Over on Twitter, Niko Partners senior analyst Daniel Ahmad states that Persona 4 Golden for Steam will be announced and released on the same day, while insider Wario64 also said that the game would be coming to Steam “sometime soon.”

Meanwhile, Gematsu also claims in a report that according to “multiple sources with knowledge of its release,” Persona 4 Golden will be announced for Steam at the PC Gaming Show on June 13, and will launch immediately afterward. Finally, a page for the game has also gone up on SteamDB, and though there was initially some doubt over whether it’s for Atlus’ RPG, SteamDB developer Pavel Djundik stated in a tweet that the page does indeed appear to be for Persona 4 Golden.

If this does turn out to be true – which seems more than a little likely at this point – this will make it the first time a Persona game has released on PC since the very first one launched for the platform (and only in Japan) in 1999.

No word yet on whether Persona 5 is also inbound for PC.

The PC Gaming Show 2020 will be taking place on June 13th at 11 AM PST and one of the companies featured is Atlus. This fueled all kinds of speculation especially with Atlus West promising “exciting news”. While many assumed something related to Persona, it’s not the game (or games) you’re thinking.

According to insider Sabi on Twitter, Persona 4 Golden would be coming to PC. This was confirmed by a friend (credited as Spaghet) receiving the files. Persona 3 is also inbound though it will be Persona 3 Portable, the enhanced version that released for the PlayStation Portable in 2009.

The big question then is: What about Persona 5? Unfortunately, Sabi didn’t hear anything about it (yet). It would be strange to bring two classic Persona titles to PC and not use them springboard new consumers into the latest release. The question then is whether the base Persona 5 experience will be on PC or the enhanced edition Persona 5 Royal. We’ll have to wait for more details (and potential leaks) in the meantime.

The developer is one of several big-name studios featured for the show.

It was recently revealed that the upcoming PC Gaming Show 2020 would have over 50 games to showcase. Titles like Mafia: Definitive Edition, Amazon’s New World, Everspace 2 and Surgeon Simulator 2 are expected. However, many were surprised to see Atlus listed as one of the developers featured.

This could mean anything though a tweet from Atlus West promises “exciting news” for the show. Given the number of games the company is known for – from Persona and Catherine to Radiant Historia and Etrian Odyssey – that doesn’t really narrow it down. Regardless, everyone is anticipating some kind of Persona 5-related announcement, perhaps even a port of Persona 5: Royal for PC.

We’ll have to wait for more details in the coming days. The PC Gaming Show 2020 is slated to take place on June 13th. Other studios attending include Sega, Perfect World Entertainment (which is publishing Torchlight 3), Coffee Stain Studios and Dontnod Entertainment. Expect announcements or new information from them as well.

More events pushed to next week due to unrest.

This week seemed pumped and primed to finally kick off the big marketing push for video gaming this year. This would typically be the time of E3, but due to its cancellation a multitude of events rose up in its place. Most of those have been pushed back now because of growing unrest in the United States, and now we have two more shows following suit.

Both the PC Gaming Show and the Future Games Show have confirmed to be pushed back a week. The first was announced by PC Gamer, which you can see below, and then Future Games Show was announced to be pushed back not long after by PC Gamer’s sister site, GamesRadar.

Both shows were originally set to be on June 6th, but now they will both air June 13th instead. It’s quite interesting, especially since the Future Games Show was just announced a couple of days ago.
PC Gamer has confirmed that its annual PC Gaming Show will be taking place on June 6th. A recent addition to E3, the event was in doubt following the cancellation of E3 2020, not to mention the lack of any dedicated online event from the organizer. Nevertheless, it will take place and be livestreamed on Twitch and the like.

The show will feature new titles, “never-before-seen gameplay footage” and announcements. Partners include the likes of Frontier Developments, Humble Bundle, Perfect World Entertainment, Tripwire Interactive, Epic Games Store and Intel. We may also see updates on titles like Chivalry 2, Evil Geniuses 2: World Domination and so on which featured in last year’s showcase.

With E3 2020’s cancellation, many publishers have discussed the possibility of having digital presentations. Microsoft and Ubisoft expressed interest, with the former rumored to be having two events – one in May, the other in June. Xbox boss Phil Spencer even indicated recently that it wouldn’t be much longer for game reveals. Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks.

Even without a "traditional expo", there will still be "tons to talk, write and make video about."

Though not on the same scale as an Xbox or Ubisoft presser, the PC Gaming Show has been a welcome staple at E3 over the past few years. So with E3 2020 being cancelled, what will be the fate of this year’s presser? PC Gamer, which has organized the show over the past few years, will have more to share on its plans in the coming weeks.

The publication didn’t really commit as to whether the show would be happening or not – simply that it was “investigating multiple possibilities” It cited Microsoft and Ubisoft planning digital events in lieu of physical pressers. However, whether the PC Gaming Show would follow suit or not wasn’t confirmed.

It did say that, “We still want there to be a place for developers of all sizes to announce cool new projects – and, of course, the PC Gaming Show’s remit will always be to shine a light on the smaller studios whose passion projects are so key to the success of PC gaming.” Even if a “traditional expo” doesn’t take place, the publication said there “will still be tons to talk, write, and make video about.”

Since E3 2020 was cancelled, many other publishers have shared plans for replacement events. Devolver Digital is planning to have a livestream “Devolver Direct”/press conference (don’t ask, we don’t know). Nintendo is looking at “various ways” to engage with its fans, though a Direct presentation will still likely take place. Microsoft will be holding an Xbox digital event while Ubisoft considers its own digital experience. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
