The ambitious Apple Arcade is now available for $4.99 per month with more than 100 games planned for release this Fall. The launch line-up is already pretty hefty and all titles are available ad-free. If you want to try before signing up, the service offers a free one month trial.

Currently live for iPhones with iOS 13, the service will also be coming to iPad, Mac and Apple TV. It supports family sharing for up to six users with the ability to continue where you left off on another device. Both online and offline play are supported.

The line-up of available titles include Capcom’s Shinsekai: Into the Depths, Simogo’s Sayonara Wild Hearts, Dodge Roll’s Exit the Gungeon, Klei Entertainment’s Hot Lava, Frogger in Toy Town, the first part of Shantae and the Seven Sirens and many more. As far as subscription services go, it’s quite the offer and Apple is pouring a hefty amount into supporting it. Stay tuned for more details on new titles as they roll out.

Quite recently, Capcom filed a trademark for something called “Shinsekai: Into the Depths”, and a large number of people believed that this was going to be a revival for the long-in-development Deep Down, a game that we haven’t heard about for a significant period of time now. We now know what it is and… well, it isn’t Deep Down.

Shinsekai: Into the Depths is an exclusive title for Apple Arcade, the gaming-centric streaming service for iOS devices that launches imminently (via Polygon). Apple have been making significant investments into this service and into securing exclusives for it, and Shinsekai is part of those efforts. The game is an atmospheric, underwater platformer with “simple” controls that will require players to master “shooting while thrusting.”

So yeah. It definitely isn’t Deep Down. So where is Deep Down then? Well, we can probably expect it to launch around the same time as Rockstar’s Agent. Incidentally, with Shinsekai, Capcom’s support for Apple Arcade is officially better than their support for the Nintendo Switch. So that’s something.

There’s development hell, and there’s whatever state Capcom’s Deep Down has been in for what feels like forever. First announced all the way back in 2013 as a PS4 exclusive, the dungeon crawler looked like an absolutely beautiful title that immediately shot up in many lists for the most highly anticipated upcoming games. Six years later, we’re still waiting for the game to come out.

Capcom said a couple of years after the game was announced that they hadn’t cancelled it and were still working on it, while after a couple more years of silence, they then renewed that trademark back in 2017. Now, after a couple more years of silence yet again, it’s looking like there’s a chance we might see something of the game soon.

Capcom have filed a trademark in Europe for something called Shinsekai: Into the Depths– and speculation suggests that this could be a new lease of life for Deep Down. The “Into the Depths” subtitle makes those dots very easy to connect- but it’s worth noting that there’s no official word on any of it right now, and there’s a chance that this ends up being something else entirely.
