Horizon Call of the Mountain has, of course, been confirmed as a PS VR2 launch title for a while, as have the likes of Resident Evil Village, No Man’s Sky, and The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR. Meanwhile, it’s also been confirmed that Gran Turismo 7 will be available on PS VR2 upon release, and will feature (nearly) full support for the device.

Other notable games in the PlayStation VR2’s launch window lineup include Tetris Effect: Connected, The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners – Chapter 2: Retribution, Cities VR, Moss 1 and 2 Remastered, Rez Infinite, Thumper, and more.

Of course, it is worth pointing out that Sony is referring to these games as launch window titles, and hasn’t quite nailed down exactly how much time that window will entail. While several of these titles are confirmed to be available for the PS VR2 on the day of its release on February 22, several others will be arriving over the course of the next several months (unless they get delayed). And of course, more games could always join the list as well.

Meanwhile, Sony has also unveiled 13 new games for the PS VR2.

The most notable of these is the widely acclaimed Tetris Effect: Connected, which will be available on PS VR2 at launch on February 22, with owners of the original Tetris Effect on PS4/PS VR being able to upgade for $9.99. Meanwhile, Rez Infinite, which was a launch title for the original PS VR, will be included in its successor’s launch lineup as well, and will also offer a $9.99 upgrade to existing owners.

Other notable new announcements include interactive afterlife title Before Your Eyes, fully-licensed first person title NFL Pro Era, comedy golfing game What the Bat?, and puzzle title The Last Clockwinder. 

A number of the new announcements are PS VR2 ports of existing titles, including the likes of Kayak VR: Mirage, Pavlov VR, Song in the Smoke: Rekindled, Puzzling Places, Synth Riders: Remastered Edition, Thumper, and Creed Rise to Glory: Championship Edition.

Half-Life: Alyx

Half-Life: Alyx was a dream come true for legions of fans, but when Valve announced that it was a VR-only game – there was an element of skepticism associated with anticipation. But when Half-Life: Alyx was finally released, fans were elated with joy and all those skepticism washed away. In so many ways, Half-Life: Alyx is the perfect example of how to craft a AAA game for the VR platform – thanks to a potent combination of a meaningful story and well-designed gameplay ideas that leverage the capabilities of the platform to the fullest.

Elden Ring

It’s easy to dismiss Elden Ring as little more than open-world Dark Souls. But it takes the sheer freedom of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and packs it with weapons, Incantations, Sorceries, armor, enemies, mini-bosses, side quests, lore and quirky characters. Elden Ring is a dense experience that goes from one spectacle to the next.

The first batch of games in those three categories has now been revealed (courtesy of SteamDB), and there are some interesting names in each list. The list of Unsupported games is a pretty short one with just 5 games, though it does have one notable name- Persona 4 Golden. The game’s own page says that Valve is still working on adding support though, so hopefully this won’t be permanent. 

24 games so far have the Playable tag. The list includes the likes of The Witcher 3, Slay the Spire, Inscryption, Subnautica, Valheim, Tomb Raider, Rise of the Tomb Raider, NieR: Automata, Bravely Default 2, and more. That means that right now, these games are playable on the Steam Deck, but might still run into a few issues here and there. 

Finally, there’s the first batch of Steam Deck Verified games, which lists 38 titles right now and is already looking impressive. Games that have already been fully optimized for the upcoming handheld device include the likes of Portal 2, Celeste, Hollow Knight, Dishonored, Cuphead 2, Psychonauts 2, Dark Souls 2, Dark Souls 3, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Death’s Door, Death Stranding, Mad Max, Scarlet Nexus, Aliens: Fireteam Elite, Hot Wheels Unleashed, the upcoming Total War: Warhammer 3, and many others.

The Steam Deck is scheduled to launch in February.

Halo Infinite Multiplayer

Yes, it’s technically a beta but Halo Infinite’s free to play multiplayer component is content-complete ahead of the campaign’s launch in December. And while much can be said about progression, the extensive monetization or the horrid Armor Cores system, the gameplay is simply exquisite. It plays like the perfect mix of Halo’s classic gun play and movement combined with solid power-ups (that aren’t overbearing) and weapon balance. Map design ranges from good to great, and the extensive polish is a sight to behold in light of the competition. There’s still a ways to go but in terms of fun, Halo Infinite’s multiplayer is already top-notch.

During Nintendo’s recent Indie World showcase, it was announced that Tetris Effect: Connected will be releasing for the Nintendo Switch at long last, with its release date confirmed to be October 8. Honestly, it’s a bit surprising that it’s taken this long for a game such as this one to come to Nintendo’s hybrid (as the saying goes, it’s perfect for the Switch)- but hey, better late than never, right?

Cross-platform play also goes live on the same day and those on Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One along with PC players with the Microsoft Store version will receive an update along with PS4, Oculus Quest, Steam and Epic Games Store. Along with a skill rating reset for multiplayer, a new Spectator Mode, PAL and Slow speed modes, and new performance options for Oculus Quest 2 headsets.

For more details on Tetris Effect: Connected, check out our review here. This update may mark the end of support for the title especially since creator Tetsuya Mizuguchi confirmed in November 2020 that he was moving on to his next project. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.

Other new features include Spectator Mode for matches with friends which allows 4-6 players to spectate a match and use emotes to cheer for players. PAL Speed is also being added to local and friendly matches along with Classic Score Attack which looks to replicate the European PAL feel of the original Tetris on the NES. That means a lower frame rate, faster dropping speed in the later levels and faster horizontal movement. Finally, Slow Speed is coming to Zone Battle along with friendly and local matches.

A closed beta will be held for cross-platform play along with all of the new features starting today. It will be available as a separate download from today to June 23rd on PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and Microsoft Store PC. All Tetris Effect owners can try it out from June 23rd to July 5th while Steam users gain access from today till July 5th (but only through closed invite). Enhance’s Tetris Effect: Connected released last November for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC via the Windows Store but its colorful journey is far from over. It’s slated to release on Steam this Summer with the publisher announcing the store page to be live. Fans can wishlist the title in the meantime.

As for additional details, Enhance stated that it would have “some more exciting news” on the update soon. Tetris Effect: Connected is essentially an update to the base game that added co-op multiplayer and a new competitive mode. Though currently exclusive to Xbox platforms and Windows Store, it will also be coming to PS4, PlayStation VR, Epic Games and Oculus Quest versions as a free update this Summer.
