Confidence from porting Resident Evil Village to the hardware ultimately led Capcom to develop a version for the Switch 2.

Even with the lack of Leon announcements at Tokyo Game Show 2025, Resident Evil Requiem still received positive feedback, especially on the Nintendo Switch 2. Based on some recent handheld mode gameplay, it appears far better than many were expecting, especially for a native version of the game.

However, as producer Masato Kumazawa told IGN, it wasn’t originally planned for the console. “The Switch 2 hadn’t been announced when we started planning this game, so of course it wasn’t in the original plan. When the Switch 2 was announced, we were able to start testing, developing games for it, and we thought it would be great if we could bring the Resident Evil series to this platform.”

The team first began by internally porting Resident Evil Village to see if it would “work well on the hardware, and it looked really great, so that gave us the confidence to add a Switch 2 version of Requiem to the plans, and that led us to the recent announcement where we confirmed not only Requiem was coming, but 7 and 8 would also be coming to Nintendo Switch 2 at the same time.”

When asked if the Switch 2 version had any unique features, Kumazawa said, “In a good way,” that it didn’t. Given the quality of its visuals, it’s likely most players will be satisfied with that.

Launching on February 27th, 2026, Resident Evil Requiem will also be available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Despite Leon S. Kennedy not being revealed, the rumors maintain that he’s a playable character with more action-focused gameplay and larger areas to explore than Grace. As always, stay tuned for more updates in the coming months.

"We're always happy that people are interested in the game enough to speculate so much,” said producer Masato Kumazama.

Rumors circulated before Tokyo Game Show about the supposed reveal of Leon S. Kennedy in Capcom’s Resident Evil Requiem. One State of Play and PlayStation Japan stage event later, and that confirmation is still pending. While IGN did witness a new trailer, Leon was nowhere to be found.

Upon bringing this up to game director Koshi Nakanishi and producer Masato Kumazama at TGS, they laughed, and the latter said, “We will take on board this feedback.” When asked if there’s any concern about the rumors and whether they affected Grace’s position as the only (to our knowledge) playable character, the latter said, “We’re always happy that people are interested in the game enough to speculate so much.”

Interestingly, Kumazawa was more candid about Requiem being a potential “passing of the torch” moment for the franchise…which is to say, it isn’t. “Although we don’t have firm plans for the future storylines of later titles in the series, I still think passing the torch is probably going a bit too far, because we’re not just going to wipe the slate clean completely in terms of the series lore and history.

“But at the same time, I don’t want to always have to just go back to the well of existing characters to create new games, which was part of the motivation to introduce Grace.”

Resident Evil Requiem launches on February 27th, 2026, for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. Surprisingly, there initially weren’t plans to release it on Nintendo’s console. You can read more on that here or check out some admittedly impressive off-screen footage of the game in handheld mode.

“Having the two mechanics, Diana’s hacking and Hugo shooting, has been one of the causes for us to put more time into that game."

Between Onimusha: Way of the Sword and Resident Evil Requiem, Capcom has some impressive titles lined up for next year. However, its most intriguing is Pragmata, a sci-fi shooter where players must simultaneously hack targets as the android Diana for Hugh to shoot. Recent showings have been positive, but the project has suffered numerous delays since its reveal.

Speaking to The Gamer at Tokyo Game Show, director Cho Yonghee finally revealed the reason: Nailing the hacking mechanic. “It’s a big reason for it [the delay]. There was so much trial and error and back and forth just to see what could land and what works best.”

“Having the two mechanics, Diana’s hacking and Hugo shooting, has been one of the causes for us to put more time into that game,” added producer Naoto Oyama. “We took our time to balance it all out.” Of course, the team also mulled over the amount of screen real estate occupied by the hacking screen.

Nevertheless, there are no regrets about revealing Pragmata so early. “Putting the game out there so early served as motivation for us. If we didn’t put that trailer out back then, Pragmata might not be the same game it is today,” said Yonghee.

The delay also contributed somewhat to the hype, per Oyama. “Whenever there was a digital showcase, people were always expecting Pragmata.” Whether that ends up justified remains to be seen.

Pragmata launches next year for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Check out the latest trailer here, showcasing the Shelter where players can craft hacking nodules to grant new abilities and upgrades to Diana.

While the TGS 2025 demo in handheld mode may not be running at 60 frames per second, the frame rate is stable, and it looks good.

While Capcom has already confirmed that its upcoming survival horror title, Resident Evil Requiem, will be making its way on to the Nintendo Switch 2, we now also have an idea of what playing it in the console’s handheld mode will look like. A video, courtesy of Shacknews, has been released showcasing the Tokyo Game Show 2025 demo running on a Nintendo Switch 2.

While we don’t really get a direct feed from the console running the title in handheld mode, quite a few of the details of its visuals and frame rate are visible from the camera angle. It is worth noting that the demo is quite obviously not running at 60 FPS in handheld mode. Rather, it looks like the frame rate has been capped to either 30 or 40 FPS. The title is also making use of the special version of DLSS that was developed by Nvidia in collaboration with Nintendo for the Switch 2.

It is also worth noting that, while the frame rate is quite stable, we don’t get to see much in the way of intense gameplay sections from Resident Evil Requiem. However, the game’s impressive use of lighting is in full display, complete with deep, dark shadows and the soft glow of a lighter being the only source of light. Check out the full 15 minute video below.

Capcom had confirmed a Switch 2 release for Resident Evil Requiem earlier this month. The announcement was made with a trailer, giving us a look at some of the new enemies that we might get to face in the survival horror game.

Back in August, director Koshi Nakanishi had spoken about the studio’s decision to include an option for a third-person camera mode. In an interview, he acknowledged that some players might find the first-person perspective, which we last saw in Resident Evil 7 and Village, a bit too scary. For these players, a third-person option has been added to give them a better look at their surroundings.

“Looking back at Resident Evil 7‘s first person perspective, I implemented that as a way to make it more immersive and more scary than ever before, which I think most you know media and players agreed it was an incredibly scary game, but it was possibly too scary,” Nakanishi said.

“I think some people couldn’t handle it, and either couldn’t finish or didn’t even start it. And that’s something that I look back on thinking that, you know, I want to make sure that people can enjoy this game. So if you started the game off in first person perspective, and you’re finding it’s too much, then third person is almost a way to step slightly back from that level of horror and make it slightly easier to deal with by having the character on screen as a kind of Avatar of yourself.”

Resident Evil Requiem is coming to PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2 on February 27, 2026. The title will take players back to Raccoon City, and its protagonist is also the daughter of one of the playable characters from co-op spin-off Resident Evil Outbreak.

The gameplay also confirms the inclusion of the Savage Land as a playable stage with multiple transitions and impressive backgrounds.

For those who couldn’t try out the closed beta for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls earlier this month, the title is currently playable at Tokyo Game Show 2025 for attendees. Denfaminicogamer went hands-on with an updated build while showcasing the various moves of Spider-Man and Ghost Rider. Check out the new gameplay below.

This version of Ghost Rider is Robbie Reyes rather than Johnny Blaze, as evidenced by a special move where his flaming car runs over opponents. Spider-Man is, as you’d expect, Spider-Man, using agility and web-slinging to gain an advantage. The gameplay highlights the Savage Land, a familiar X-Men location, with multiple stage transitions.

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls launches in 2026 for PS5 and PC as an initiative between Marvel Games, Arc System Works and PlayStation. It’s seemingly meant to receive ten years of support, or at least become the “best experience ever” throughout that period according to producer Takeshi Yamanaka. Head here for more details on the mechanics of the 4v4 fighter.

The survey includes almost every title in the series, from Metal Gear Solid 4 to the more recent Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain.

Tokyo Game Show starts this week, with the next Metal Gear Production Hotline set to air live on September 24th, 7:30 PM PST. It seemingly promises more information on Fox Hunt, the new multiplayer mode coming to Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater sometime this Fall, but there’s also an interesting post-program survey for Japanese users to peruse.

It features questions across various topics, but the one that sticks out the most is which games in the Metal Gear series fans would like to see remade next. Almost everything is included, from the original Metal Gear titles to Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain. Even Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, which is playable only on PS3, and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker are fair game.

It’s not surprising to see Konami considering future remakes. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater sold over one million copies on its first day and received extensive critical acclaim. Regardless of what fans vote for, however, an announcement may take a while, so stay tuned and check out our review.

The program will instead feature updates on Pragmata, Monster Hunter Wilds, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, and other upcoming titles.

Capcom’s next Online Special Program is scheduled for September 24th at 7 AM PT, pre-empting next week’s Tokyo Game Show with news on its latest titles. Unfortunately, one title that you shouldn’t expect to see new details for is Resident Evil Requiem.

The eagerly anticipated survival horror, which crossed one million wishlists within a few weeks of its announcement, is part of the publisher’s line-up for the show. If Gamescom is anything to go by, it might be playable on the show floor, but you shouldn’t expect any new information during the Special Program.

Perhaps it’s a reveal for Sony’s rumored State of Play? That’s always a possibility, but we’ll have to wait for it to be made official. On the bright side, you can expect the “latest updates” on Pragmata and Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection, new details on Monster Hunter Wilds’ Title Update 3 (out later this month), and C. Viper, the latest character for Street Fighter 6.

The “latest footage” for Onimusha: Way of the Sword will also be showcased, while Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection sees producer Ryozo Tsujimoto and director Kenji Oguro providing new details and highlights. As always, stay tuned for more coverage next week.

The publisher will reveal three new titles from Iridium Studios, Marumittu Games and Yarn Owl ahead of this year's Tokyo Game Show.

As revealed in Tokyo Game Show’s official livestream schedule, Annapurna Interactive will host its first-ever stage event at the trade fair. Before that, the publisher will livestream the Annapurna Interactive Direct From Tokyo 2025 on September 23rd at 5 PM PT, showcasing three brand new titles.

Their developers are Iridium Studios (There Came an Echo), Marumittu Games (Captain StarONE, World’s End Club) and Yarn Owl. Marumittu announced its partnership with Annapurna back in 2023 for Project D, so the official title could finally be revealed. Yarn Owl’s debut title takes inspiration from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and it’s been on board with the publisher since 2022.

It’s unknown if other titles, like Kentucky Route Zero developer Cardboard Computer’s next or the elusive Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth, will be showcased. Tokyo Game Show attendees can see the three new games from September 25th to 28th, and maybe go hands-on. Stay tuned for more details in the coming days.

Other titles include Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O World Stage, Persona 3: Reload, and much more.

Like many developers, Sega has revealed its lineup for Tokyo Game Show 2025, which includes upcoming releases such as Persona 3: Reload for Switch 2. It’s playable on the show floor alongside Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage and Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.

Meanwhile, Football Manager 26, Sega Football Club Champions 2025, and Persona 5: The Phantom X fall under the “novelty” category. But the biggest tease involves four titles with the “Coming Soon” tag. It’s unknown whether they’ll fall into the “novelty” category or become playable for attendees, never mind what they could be.

There are several possibilities, from the rumored Sonic Heroes remake to Sonic Frontiers 2. Sega could also finally reveal its reboots for Crazy Taxi, Streets of Rage, Jet Set Radio and Golden Axe. Among those announcements, only Shinobi: Art of Vengeance has been released thus far.

Stay tuned for more details when Tokyo Game Show kicks off on September 25th to 28th, and check out the program schedule here.
