Resident Evil Requiem Revisits Raccoon City Due to Capcom’s “Curiosity” of the Aftermath

Producer Masato Kumazawa compares this feeling to opening a cooker with "rice left forgotten" for a week and satisfying one's curiosity.

Resident Evil Requiem

The Resident Evil series has traveled to its fair share of locations after the third game, whether it’s the backwaters of Louisiana or a globe-trotting high-stakes adventure with multiple characters. With Resident Evil Requiem, however, Capcom is returning to Raccoon City, where many plotlines began.

Speaking to 4Gamer (translation via Automaton-Media), game director Koshi Nakanishi noted this was due to Grace’s journey and a desire to explore the outbreak’s impact on the survivors. While acknowledging that this is a long time coming, producer Masato Kumazawa compared this examination to “rice left forgotten in a rice cooker for a week – something you probably don’t want to open, but eventually curiosity makes you lift the lid.”

Of course, he also previously noted that it’s the “most fitting setting” for the series’ upcoming 30th anniversary. Capcom has teased about this potentially being the “requiem that finally lays the memories of that abhorrent disaster to rest.” However, Nakanishi says it’s also about how the victims’ deaths (including Alyssa) are remembered going forward.

Resident Evil Requiem launches on February 27th, 2026, for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. It’s the first title in the series playable in first- and third-person perspectives, with the option to switch on the fly. The team promises an “addictive fear,” but it also wants to pace the horrors to prevent players from getting exhausted. Check out all the latest details here.
